***Organizers Appreciate Gov Diri for Continuous Support

Seven topflight Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL teams and a non league side Krusaders selected will participate in the governor Douye Diri pre season tournament in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Organizers of the Tournament led by Director General of the Prosperity Cup, Mr. Ono Akpe gave the hint at a press conference held in Yenagoa ahead of the tournament.

Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee, Mr. Ono Akpe noted that the vision of the governor, Senator Douye Diri was aimed at strengthening Bayelsa United squad before the commencement of the season, pointing out that the primary reason for the tournament was to avoid the repeat of last season, where the state owned Team barely avoided the drop.

According to him, all the participating teams in the tourney have officially confirmed their readiness to feature in the tournament, maintaining that the tournament’s initial plan was for six teams but the governor made it open to eight teams, so as to accommodate the Prosperity Cup team, the Krusaders.

Clearing the air on why Krusaders Feeders FC was included rather than the 2024 Prosperity Cup champions, Ogboinbiri FC, the DG explained that the team is an assemblage of players from Ogboinbiri FC, Krusaders Feeders FC, and other exceptional players who were selected at this year’s governor’s cup, adding that Krusaders Feeders FC was just a mere nomenclature.

He appreciated the governor, Senator Douye Diri and his deputy, senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the commissioner for Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali for investing in the development of sports.

Vice Chairman, Central Organizing Committee and Tournament Director, Mr. Perela Aboroson, said the tournament would be played in two groups of “A” and “B” with teams expected to arrive on the 11th of August while the tournament proper will commence on Monday 12th through the 18th of August, 2024.

He explained that the tournament will have fourteen matches with the winners of the two groups locking horns in the final match, while the first runner up from the group hostilities will play in the third place match.

He said there will be four games in
each day and a resting day will be observed on Tuesday, while Wednesday will witness another round of matches.

Mr. Aboroson asserted that the final and the third place matches of the tourney will come up on Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium, stating that all the participating teams would receive five hundred thousand naira (#500.000.00) each as appearance fee, the visiting teams will enjoy free accommodation.

In his remarks, commissioner for Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali represented by Assistant Director Human Resource Management Ministry of Sports Development, Mr. Mike Ede-Alakere remarked that the essence of the tournament was to give Bayelsa United the opportunity to test their players before the NPFL kick off date.

Mr. Ede-Alakere stated that apart from giving the NPFL teams a platform to know their strength and weakness, it is also an avenue to market players who took part in the just concluded prosperity cup in order for them to be captured by some league sided.

In an interview, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Mr. Ebi Avi welcomed the idea of the government to organize another national event months after hosting the Nigeria Women Premier Football League Super Six, stressing that the tourney would create an opportunity to expose more Bayelsa youths.

The governor, Douye Diri pre season tourney is sponsored by the Ministry of Sports Development and the Bayelsa State Football Association, in collaboration with the Prosperity Cup organizers and Red Sapphire, a sports management consultant.

Youth Internship Scheme: NDDC’s Elixir For Niger Delta Youths

0

By Ifeatu Agbu

The inspiring stories of Bill Gates’ Microsoft and Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook readily serve as reference points for the youths in nurturing their entrepreneurial dreams and positioning them to win big on innovations. Often, however, there is a challenge with providing the platform for them to hone their innate talents.

To bridge this gap and provide the stage for the youths to showcase their talents, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has continued to come up with strategic youth development programmes, recognising that youth unemployment is one of the pressing issues facing the Niger Delta region.

It is re-assuring that the NDDC is addressing the challenge of unemployment from different fronts, the latest being the roll out of a Youth Internship Scheme aimed at building the capacity of the young ones to ensure that they are sustainably empowered.

The first phase of the NDDC internship programme launched on July 30, 2024, by the Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio, will engage 10,000 youths in industries and organisations that would improve their skills, while the NDDC pays them a monthly stipend of N50, 000.00 naira.

Placing youths on internship roles will allow them to enhance their technical skills and acquire practical experience in sectors such as oil and gas, hospitality, and medicine, among others, to make them self-reliant.

Providing these diverse trainings will no doubt help the youths to acquire meaningful and self-sustaining skills that would improve their lives, support their families and communities and thus reduce criminality in the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, explains the rationale behind the Youth Internship Scheme, stating that it would provide relief to the youths and help them attain skills and work experience to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities.

He further notes that participants are placed in relevant industries and organisations to gain practical experience and on-the-job training. The programe includes mentorship components where experienced professionals guide the interns and after completing the internship, participants may receive support in securing employment or starting their businesses.

The NDDC has continued to emphasise the importance of building the capacity of youths through deliberate programmes in its determined march to transits from transaction to transformation.

For the NDDC Executive Director, Projects, Sir Victor Antai, the new internship scheme is a bold step towards changing the narrative of a militant Niger Delta to an intellectual activism. He affirms that the scheme is not merely a financial intervention but a symbol of NDDC’s commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation.

Antai posits: “The Heartbeat of a nation lies in the vigour and vitality of its youth, yet in the Niger Delta, the beat has faltered under the weight of impoverishment borne out of a very difficult terrain and limited opportunities. Together, we can turn the tide of unemployment and steer the Niger Delta towards a brighter future.”

In driving its holistic empowerment programmes, the NDDC developed a new concept of working with the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce in the training of youths and aspiring entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta region.

According to the NDDC Managing Director, the collaboration with the chamber of commerce was aimed at supporting small and medium-scale enterprises.
He explained: “The Chamber of Commerce will strengthen young entrepreneurs in the region. It is no longer acceptable that our youths will be at home and be receiving stipends. Hence, we have changed the NDDC Youth Volunteer programme to Youth Internship Programme, where youths will be attached to organisations for a specified period to enhance their skills.

“The chamber of commerce will help us to ensure that the programme is sustainable. We will focus on empowering young entrepreneurs because the government cannot employ everybody.”

The NDDC boss said further that the Commission would also partner with the Bank of Industry to fund projects and support businesses to facilitate the success of the Commission’s youth development programmes.

With the Bank of Industry in the mix, youths in rural areas can be sure of receiving support through the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, programme, while those in urban centres will be assisted under the Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, category.

It is significant that NDDC has given more opportunities and hope to Niger Delta youths through the Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement, HOPE, meant to identify the interests of the youths for skills training.

The youth development and empowerment scheme, designed to create a comprehensive resources database of the youth population of the Niger Delta region, is meant to provide a platform to empower youths of the region on sustainable basis.

Project HOPE marks a turning point in our youth development and empowerment because it is all-inclusive and designed for sustainability. Things can only be sustainable when they are data-driven. The project would create a database for youths, women, and entrepreneurs. This would enable development agencies to see clearly what the youths want.

The new initiative, which is coming after many years of unplanned and mismanaged projects execution in the region, will focus on the needs of the youths, their qualifications, skills, passion, interests, and employment status.

So far, over one million youths have registered in the Project HOPE database and many more are still registering with the encouragement of various youth organisations. The database will serve as a plank for data-driven planning, enabling the formulation of impactful policies and programmes targeted at the youths.

No doubt, the NDDC will use the Project Hope to change the negative perception that the region’s youth are inclined toward militancy, when in fact, stakeholders in the region are now talking about intellectual militancy.

The Niger Delta stakeholders believe that we are at the dawn of a new tech programme, known as Mili-tech, which will signify a transition from militancy to technology. As if to prepare grounds for this transition, the NDDC has entered into partnership with the Rivers State Government to use its Information Technology Centre in Port Harcourt as one of its technology hubs in the region.

Apart from technology, the Project HOPE aims to cover other key areas, such as agriculture, music and arts, entrepreneurial development, marine and internship.

The good thing is that in designing its youth development programmes the NDDC relies on stakeholder engagements to interact with the relevant groups, because it realises that in planning for programmes one must involve those concerned at the foundational level.

Skills acquisition and human capital development are some of the key areas the Federal Government is paying special attention to in order to engage the youths and help to improve the lives of people in the Niger-delta region by helping them develop sustainable entrepreneurial skills.

Entrepreneurial, vocational and leadership value enhancement is the key to unlock the potentials and possibilities available to the youths in the Niger Delta region and this justifies the importance which the NDDC attaches to industrial development and human capacity building.

Dangote Refinery To Sell Remaining NNPC 12.7% Stake – Fitch

0

12.7 per cent stake in 2024 for loan servicing, Fitch Ratings, a credit rating agency says in a report released on Monday.

Fitch recalled that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited had earlier planned to acquire a 20 per cent stake in the refinery.

However, the rating agency indicated that the decision of the national oil firm not to exercise its option of acquiring an additional 12.75 per cent as of June 2024 may impact the group’s ability to service loans.

In 2021, the NNPC acquired a 7.25 per cent stake in the refinery for $1.0bn, with an option to purchase the remaining 12.75 per cent stake by June 2024. But the national oil firm has since reneged on its decision.

Since the option has not been exercised, the group plans to divest a 12.75 per cent stake in DORC in 2024.

The group intends to service its significant syndicated loan maturing in August 2024 from the equity divestment. However, timely divestment and meeting the imminent maturity are highly uncertain in our view,” Fitch said.

It could be recalled that the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, opened up in July that the NNPC has only a 7.2 per cent stake in the refinery and not 20 per cent as most Nigerians used to think.

“The agreement was actually 20 per cent which we had with NNPC, and they did not pay the balance of the money up till last year; then we gave them another extension up till June (2024), and they said that they would remain where they have already paid, which is 7.2 per cent. So NNPC owns only 7.2 per cent, not 20 per cent.” Dangote stated.

NNPC confirmed this, saying it decided not to invest further in the refinery.

“NNPC Limited periodically assesses its investment portfolio to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

“The decision to cap its equity participation at the paid-up sum was made and communicated to Dangote Refinery several months ago,” the NNPC said in a statement by its spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye.

Meanwhile, a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, called for an independent audit of why the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited capped its investment in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery at 7.2 per cent instead of the planned 20 per cent.

“Did the Nigerian government not tell us it borrowed $3.3bn from Afriexim-Bank to take a stake in the Dangote refinery?” Ezekwesili asked, calling on President Bola Tinubu to immediately launch an independent audit of the Dangote refinery-NNPC transaction to offer the public the true state of play.

We are optimistic that advancing the natural gas pipeline network to the highly commercial Victoria Island and the rapidly developing Lekki area is a step in the right direction”.

Managing Director of Eko Atlantic City, David Frame, highlighted the significance of being the first customer to be connected and benefit from the project. “This development not only ensures a more efficient, stable, affordable and reliable supply of energy for our power generation needs but also sets a good benchmark for modern urban living. Beyond the immense socio-economic benefit, the sustainable nature of natural gas aligns with our vision of creating a future-ready city that prioritises energy efficiency and environmental sustainability”.

“The collaboration between Axxela, NGML and Eko Atlantic City will help the urban coastal city meet its energy needs efficiently and reliably. Eko Atlantic city is currently developing a 60MW capacity gas powered plant infrastructure which is expected to be commissioned in the coming years. As this futuristic city expands, its power requirements are substantial and critical for both residential and commercial activities. Axxela, a market leader in natural gas processing, distribution and power development, brings extensive experience of delivering piped gas to about 200 industrial and commercial customers via a vast natural gas infrastructure network.”

Eko Atlantic City, also known as Nigeria’s International Commercial Centre, is an innovative coastal city located in the heart of Victoria Island. With its grand infrastructural design that houses world class, large scale financial, residential and commercial developments, the city has become an undeniable hub of economic opportunities. This new city development embodies self-sufficiency and sustainability with cutting-edge urban planning, power generation, advanced engineering and technology.

Upon completion, the project will deepen domestic gas utilisation as companies, and businesses along the Victoria Island-Lekki corridor will have access to pipeline network infrastructure and natural gas will be readily available for utilisation across various market segments including cooling, feedstock for industries and decentralised power solutions amongst others.

Nigerian Army Compensates Family Of 16-year-old Shot Dead In Kaduna Protests With N300,000

The family of Ismail Mohammed, a 16-year-old boy killed by the Nigerian Army under President Bola Tinubu during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, has been compensated with N300,000.

This follows the army’s admission of responsibility for the fatal shooting in Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State in a statement on Wednesday.

According to social media user, Aliyu (@AliyuKwarbai) on Wednesday afternoon, Ismail Mohammed’s family has been given N300,000 for life compensation.

“The father of 16 years old boy (Ismail), who was killed by the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday, in Samaru Zaria, Kaduna state has received N300,000. N300,000 for life’s compensation of life?”

SaharaReporters reported on Tuesday that tragedy struck in Kaduna State, as Nigerian soldiers fired live rounds to suppress #EndBadGovernance protests in Samaru community, killing two civilians and sparking widespread panic.

According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers stormed the community, home to thousands of Ahmadu Bello University students, on Tuesday morning and opened fire on civilians.

SaharaReporters learnt that the military’s brutal crackdown was aimed to disperse protesters who had been gathering in the area for days.

A student resident confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, describing the atmosphere as tense and volatile following the senseless killing of innocent civilians.

The community source said, “The army came early this morning (Tuesday) and did not care; they just started shooting. Their aim was to suppress the ongoing protest. Unfortunately, their bullets hit two residents at the market area of Samaru. They both died.”

“One of them was a 16-year-old boy. I do not know much about the identity of the second one,” the source added.

A graphic video shared by X user, Better Kaduna, shows the lifeless body of one of the victims, providing disturbing visual evidence of the deadly crackdown on protesters in Zaria, Kaduna State.

He wrote: “Videos coming in from Samaru Community in Zaria are worrisome and Viewers Discretion is advised.

“Being a student-dominated community, we are calling on ABU Zaria Authorities to ensure the safety of students and forestall further loss of lives.”

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters earlier reported today that the Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a protester and 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, in Zaira, Kaduna State.

The army spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a release stated that the teenager’s death resulted from troops firing a warning shot to deter hoodlums and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

The curfew was in the wake of the #EndBadGovernance peaceful protests in the state, which was however hijacked by some hoodlums.

Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, said that Nigerian Army troops received a distress call reporting that a large group of hoodlums had gathered in Samaru, burning tyres on the road and pelting stones at security personnel.

The army authorities stated that the troops were immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene to disperse the mob and enforce the curfew imposed by the state government.

N1tn Spent To Fight Insecurity In Six Months – Open Treasury

0

The Federal Government disbursed a total of N1.03tn to boost the fight against insecurity and terrorism between January and June 2024.

In the budget implementation report for the first half of 2024 obtained by our correspondent through Open Treasury, a website that monitors government spending, the amount represents a disbursement rate of 42.80 per cent from its appropriation of N2.41tn and a balance of N1.38tn.

Despite this spending, no fewer than 5,801 Nigerians were killed in terrorist attacks, and 4,348 citizens were abducted in the first seven months of 2024, Findings by The PUNCH showed.

Data sourced from an Indigenous intelligence outfit, Beacon Consulting, revealed that the number of fatalities was recorded during the various attacks witnessed in 574 Local Government Areas across the country.

A breakdown, according to geopolitical zones, showed that 2,223 persons were killed in the North-East, representing 33 per cent of the total incidents, in which 1,609 individuals were killed and 614 kidnapped in 88 Local Government councils.

In the North-West, 125 councils recorded attacks leading to the death of 2,023 individuals while 2,607 were abducted.

No fewer than 96 councils recorded incidents in the North-Central region out of which 1,102 residents lost their lives and 847 were kidnapped.

South-West recorded attacks in 106 councils which led to the death of 434 individuals and 93 were abducted. Also, 275 persons were killed and 145 abducted in 81 councils of the South-South.

While, in the South-East, 358 fatalities and 42 abductions were reported across 78 Local Government Areas

Insecurity has severely hindered socio-economic development in Nigeria, impacting various aspects of life throughout the country. The widespread threat of violence and crime arises from multiple sources, transcending from terrorism into banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping for ransom.

Despite the government’s promise to tackle the menace by investing in advanced attack machinery, insurgents continue to operate with relative ease. Although the number of attacks and casualties has decreased, the persistent threats highlight the ongoing challenges in achieving comprehensive security.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government disbursed N9.53tn to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies as budgetary allocations in the first six months of the 2024 budget year.

The figure indicates a 24 per cent disbursement rate from the total appropriation of N38.83tn leaving a balance of N29.3tn.

The funds were disbursed to over 500 MDAs between January and June 2024 for its operations and infrastructure development in the country, according to data obtained and analysed by our correspondent using Open Treasury, a website that monitors government spending.

This development came amidst reports of poor funding by the government to MDAs.

Recently, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein, admitted that the government had yet to begin implementation of the capital component of the 2024 national budget.

She said the decision to continue with the implementation of the 2023 budget was taken after consultation with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

However, the situation may impair the government’s January-December budget cycle, vis-à-vis its national development plan 2021-2025.

A breakdown of the data revealed that the Ministry of Finance topped the list with the highest allocation of N4.96tn, a 36.94 per cent disbursement rate of its N13.43tn appropriation leaving a balance of N8.47tn.

The increase in allocation for the finance ministry is likely due to its salary payment duties.

This was followed by the defence ministry with a payment of N1.03tn. This means a disbursement rate of 42.80 per cent from its appropriation of N2.41tn and a balance of N1.38tn.

The education ministry got funding of N600.25bn indicating a 29.52 per cent disbursement rate from its total allocation of N2.03tn while the police affairs ministry received an allocation of N424.13bn in six months, representing 42.17 per cent disbursement rate from its appropriation of N1.01tn.

On economic spending, the document stated that the government spent N1.28tn on defence and security, N859.9bn on economic affairs, N314.5bn in the health sector, N784.37bn in the education sector, and N103.5bn on social protection within the review period.

Other sectors including general public services got N5.42tn, public order and safety got N764.98bn, environmental protection (N11.67bn), housing and communities (N175.49bn) and recreation, culture and religion got (N31.79bn).

Speaking on the insecurity issue, a security consultant and Fellow of the Institute of Security, Nigeria, Chigozie Ubani, said there was a critical need for a comprehensive approach to national security.

He noted that despite repeated recommendations to the Federal Government, current efforts were ineffective.

Ubani lamented the cycle of arrests, detentions, and subsequent bail of suspects without addressing the underlying social and economic factors contributing to insecurity.

“We are running a reactionary police system. When it happens, we then move. We arrest people, detain them, and later bail them. The other day, we charged them to court. It’s just reactionary. What we’ve not done is to look at the social and economic angles to security. We might be lucky, but if not, we might have a bloody situation, because people are hungry. This is one of our major problems,” he stated.

FG Moves To Revamp Textile Industries, Sanwo-Olu, Uzodimma To Lead

0

The Federal Government is mulling a revamp of the textile industries in Nigeria to leverage on its job creation potentials.

To this end, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima hosted a number of stakeholders at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Tuesday, which included the governors of Lagos and Imo State to draw ideas on how best to go about revamping the moribound industries.

Recall that Nigeria was a net producer of cotton used in the production of textiles, with major industrial hubs located in Lagos and Kaduna States.

Over the years, the sector dwindled in production leading to mass retrenchment of workers, partly attributed to government policies and neglect of the sector.

Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinma said it was germane for those in the helm of affairs to do everything within its power to stimulate the Nigerian economy, hence the buy-in of governors to the project.

He said, “Like the United Nations Cotton Manufacturing, the entire production chain of cotton is up to 10 sides and the whole idea is to leverage on this opportunity to revamp the industries in Nigeria, which many of them are now moribond, particularly in the cotton and textile sector.

“This is a new opportunity that is creating a new partnership for us to cross pollinate ideas with experts, to bring new skills, new ideas and new innovations into revamping the industries in Nigeria, and that will create jobs and engage our young men and women that are currently roaming the streets.

“So for me, I am very excited to be part of this conversation that will now revamp the economy of the country. Is a new partnership which we will leverage on.

“Before this time, you will agree with me, in Lagos State, Isolo area to be precise, you see so many textile industries. Kaduna was famous as a centre for cotton production and textile mills. In the northern areas the land was very fertile for growing cotton and then processing cotton. So I think we need to stimulate the economy. We need to create more jobs, we need to redefine Nigeria. We need to engage our young men and women, and then align properly with the new digital age for production and economic stimulation”.

Corroborating Uzodinma, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to patronise made in Nigeria textiles because of the impact it would have on the economy.

He said the textile industries have the potential of engaging over 15 to 20 million Nigerians hence the critical nature of the sector.

“If we are growing cotton, are we ready to patronize the ones we are producing locally? Because that’s one issue the textile manufacturers raised, that when they manufacture fabrics many persons prefer the ones from Italy?

” So I think the explanation has been made. Part of the things that you see with our garment manufacturer, is actually polyester, not cotton. And polyester happens to be cheaper than cotton. You know, cotton is a higher grade to sew as against using polyester if our refineries were working for what we’ve also been made to understand now is actually supposed to be one of the byproducts coming out from the refinery.

“So really, for us, is to look at the entire value chain. There’s so many things that we can track back in this country, and that’s why we say to ourselves, let’s produce what we use. Let’s use what we produce.

“Let’s go back to our garment, cotton edges. The statistics shows that it was employing directly and indirectly, almost 15 to 18 million Nigerians, in that entire value chain. If you can bring back that, even if it’s 5 million in the next one to two years, it will take us further away.

“We’ve seen the Institute, which is, like they said, like the United Nation, equivalent of the cotton industry in the world, coming here to support, to help us. Mr. Vice President has given us a matching order, and a commitment, which I think is a great news that everybody must take away from here and he has given them a road map for us to go and work with them,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Wike’s Knack for Improved Infrastructure a Catalyst for National Development…

0

…Calls for his Removal a Sign of Detractors Desperation

Following the ongoing #EndHungerandBadGovernance protest in Nigeria which started on August 1, the home of Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of FCT was targeted by hoodlums acting the script of their political masterminds under the guise of protest to raze down the edifice in similar fashion as being recorded in Northern Nigeria.

However, the presence of the security services did much to avert the planned carnage aimed at shaming the FCT Minister while scoring cheap political points.

For the avoidance of doubt, Wike is neither the incumbent governor of Rivers State nor a sitting member of the national assembly as he served his two terms of 4 years each successfully without any group or groups calling for his head and became the first Rivers governor to hand over to a successor seamlessly. It is not rocket science that such was his fate but the evidence abound.

Wike’s emergence as FCT Minister in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led APC government where he is making mark in governance and leadership today is nothing short of reward for good public service delivery courtesy of the numerous projects he started and completed during his time as governor which gave him the title Mr. Project .

It is quite ridiculously appalling , that rather than gather as protesters to ask your elected representatives in government what they are doing with the people’s commonwealth especially at a time when allocations accruing to States from the Federal Account and Allocation Committee (FAAC) has seen increase in threefold, calculated attempt is made to disparage the efforts and services of a man who has paid his dues and is off on national assignment. This leaves us with the question- who is the face behind the protest in Rivers State? Your guess is as good as mine.

You will recall that under the watch of E. N Wike every local government experienced infrastructural development even though his blueprint was to restore the glory of Port Harcourt as the Garden City, an agenda to vanquished hunger as youths were engaged on the project. The peace recorded during his time in the exalted office wooed foreign investors to the State and that increased the IGR of the State which stabilized the activities of government without going cap in hand to beg the federal government for support of any kind being an opposition state .

Since the protest as claimed by the protesters is about bad governance, shouldn’t they focus their energies on questioning the management of public funds by incumbent governors if the people are experiencing bad governance today or are they not aware that these governors since the removal of fuel subsidy are now receiving more than 59% increase in allocations to their various States which is meant to cushion the effects of the economic policies of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government?

In the FCT where Wike is the Minister, he has rolled back insecurity which was previously rampaging the Capital City before his emergence. Youths in the FCT today are enjoying different kinds of empowerment programs which is still running. He has completed abandoned projects, started new ones, and is taking projects beyond the Abuja metropolis into the Area Councils thereby enforcing and enhancing pro-people developments.

Today, people can see very vividly and testify to the value Wike has brought to the FCT. In fact, existing records shows that Wike has already accomplished and achieved in 1 year what no previous FCT Minister did in their entire period in office.

These achievements by Wike has already decimated the ploy of his detractors and reduced their abrasive steps towards replacing him as the FCT Minister to a mere wishful thinking that is dead on arrival .

In Rivers State he was MR Project, in the FCT today he is called “the StayBoy”. Wike has greatly impacted the FCT through various projects as he continues to uphold the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, thus daily renewing the hopes of the people. Wike will remain FCT Minister and Nigeria will be great again.

Let’s hold our State governors and other elected representatives accountable for our woes. They are all jointly responsible for the failure leading to the hardship we all experience as Nigerians in Nigeria today. Only when we demand accountability from the right persons shall we get it right.

Fuel Subsidy Is Back – Obasanjo Faults President Tinubu’s Claim On Removal

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has disclosed that the fuel subsidy, which was abolished by the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government in 2023, has been reinstated due to soaring inflation.

The revelation contradicts Tinubu’s declaration during his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, that fuel subsidy had been permanently removed.

The subsidy’s removal led to a significant increase in petrol prices, from around N200 to over N600 per litre.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Obasanjo criticised the government’s approach to removing the subsidy, arguing that measures should have been put in place before its removal.

However, he noted that the subsidy had effectively been reintroduced due to the current high inflation rate.

There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. Not just wake up one morning and say you removed the subsidy. Because of inflation, the subsidy that we have removed is not gone. It has come back,” Obasanjo said.

He also highlighted the need for investor confidence in Nigeria, stating, “You have to go from a transactional economy to a transformational economy.”

One of the key demands of the ongoing nationwide protests is the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy regime.

However, in his recent Sunday broadcast, President Tinubu categorically ruled out the possibility of reviving the fuel subsidy. He described the decision to remove the subsidy as “painful but necessary”, emphasizing that it had been a major obstacle to economic growth and development, likening it to a “noose around the economic jugular of our nation.”
