Dogara’s Opportunistic Diatribe And Hypocrisy

0

Those familiar with Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara’s penchant for exploiting other people’s misfortune for personal benefit will easily see through his latest diatribe against the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON.

In a publication titled, “On Governor Bala Mohammed’s Latest Tirade and Truculent Buffoonery”, the former Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives threw all decorum to the winds by hurling unprovoked expletives at the Governor whose only crime was to have stated that the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were inflicting untold hardship on the people of Nigeria.

In a report signed by Signed Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser Media & Publicity to the Governor on Sunday, as usual, the opportunistic political turncoat left the substance of the current national discourse in an ignoble and unpretentious effort to ingratiate himself with a president who, but for providence, would have been a victim of Dogara’s legendary betrayal.

All along, Dogara had been looking for an opportunity to retrace his step after abandoning Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate of his party in the 2023 presidential elections, for another candidate on the pretext that he was averse to a joint Muslim ticket. Unfortunately for the political conman called Dogara, it was common knowledge that his real reason was the loss of the vice presidential slot, which he had severally bragged was already in his kitty. So, what has changed? Or is he now at home with the ticket? Maybe after finding himself adrift due to his inconsistency and treachery.

He must be taking the President for a ride. Or how else does one describe a character who plainly accuses the President of masterminding a miscarriage of justice through a subversion of the electoral process. Hear him: “… When Governor Bala Mohammed was in court after rigging himself into office and desperately needed BAT to save him, he was busy singing his praises to the highest heavens and telling the world how amazing PBAT was, not even minding the fact that he is the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum. Just months after PBAT saved him, he has turned around to describe the President as…”

Really? What is Dogara telling the public? To the best of our knowledge, the President is neither a judge nor an advocate. What we know and for which we will always commend the President is that there is indeed no evidence that he interfered with the judicial process either for his party or anyone else. For Dogara to now suggest that the President helped Governor Bala Mohammed to protect the landslide victory given to him by the Bauchi electorate is the height of political rascality, juvenile recklessness and unbridled indiscretion. His statement is a slur on the judiciary and the mindless vituperation of a self-seeking scoundrel who has little or no regard for the judiciary.

But we can understand Dogara’s predicament, indeed desperation. Now a political orphan due to his inconsistency and betrayal of the ladder through which he secured uncommon political ascendancy, he sees his only way back as heaping hubris on a man whose political ascendancy was preceded by an illustrious career in the Federal Civil service where not only, did he acquire broad inter-ministerial exposure but indeed rose to
the directorate cadre.

We had thought that as a lawyer, Dogara would be less unintelligent as he has publicly displayed. While we understand the unwritten dictum that a lawyer could resort to insulting the opposition when confronted with an untenable situation, never did we realise that Dogara would be blinded to facts that are in the public domain, particularly the utterances and actions of two presidents produced by his party, sorry one of his parties, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Dogara’s claim of non performance against Governor Bala Mohammed is laughable as it crumbles in the face of practical evidence of the Governor’s performance. The award of Best Governor of the Year 2022, in the provision of rural infrastructure presented to him by former President Muhammadu Buhari and the award of Governor of the Year 2024 in urban renewal presented to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ridicule the laughable claim by this jester with an over-bloated political relevance but who has been consigned to where he rightly belongs.

To further buttress the falsity of Dogara’s allegation, here is an excerpt on Bala Mohammed from the speech of former President Muhammadu Buhari at the commissioning of the Bauchi Regional Water Scheme in May 2022: “I am happy that the Bauchi state Government has executed the project creditably. I am not surprised by this accomplishment because the state government personally pursued the project with vigour and determination through the allocation of resources and intervention to eliminate bottlenecks and challenges including even the COVID-19 which affected the project extension as well as paying attention to details. This is what leaders from the country should emulate from the Governor of Bauchi State”.

The Governor of Bauchi State in May 2022 was Senator Bala Mohammed of the PDP. That was the person President Buhari of the APC had charged other leaders in the country to emulate. Does Dogara not understand simple English? To the extent of suggesting that the president had advocated emulating a failure? Or has his unprovoked and maniacal obsession with Bala Mohammed’s rising political profile pushed him to the point of infantile dementia?

Since Dogara is not aware of the achievements of Bala Mohammed, a track record that earned him the two awards and for which a former president had recommended him to other leaders as a role model, we would want to take him on a brisk tour of the constituency he has since abandoned, chasing the restoration that has so far eluded him, may be until his new job as President Tinubu’s Man Friday. Who knows, he could be angling to take over the job of either Information and National Orientation Minister Muhammed Idris or Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga! Country hard jare!

Whether it is in social services or infrastructure or people empowerment, the Bala Mohammed Administration has acquitted itself creditably, delivering milestone after milestone democracy dividends, to the admiration of the Bauchi electorate. Granted that the out-of-school children crisis is more pronounced in the north, under Bala Mohammed, the problem has been reduced from the 1.3 million at the inception of his administration to about 700, 000 presently.

Before Dogara pulls a wool over the eyes of the unsuspecting public, the Bala Mohammed Administration has recorded other milestones in the education sector. These include the construction and renovation of many primary schools leading to the provision of over 5000 new classrooms, and general improvement in the learning environment. The net impact has been improved performance in external examinations.

In the health sector, the performance of the administration has been no less impressive. With a functional primary healthcare centre in each of the 323 wards of the state, upgraded general hospitals and provision of long sought after facilities such as the recently commissioned diagnostic and dialysis equipment in the Specialist Hospital Bauchi, affordable and critical healthcare are being brought closer to the people. Because Dogara has long been far removed from Bauchi, and in his jaundiced predilection this renegade son of the state cannot appreciate the unprecedented infrastructural development that has taken place. What a pity.

If Dogara is running away from the several abandoned 419 constituency projects, he should be told that Governor Bala Mohammed is ready to remedy the situation. Or could it be that he is haunted by his reputation for budget padding or the possession of the biggest warehouse of motorcycles in Jos Plateau State (not in Bauchi) that was looted by unknown persons during the EndSARs protest or his malicious opposition to his benevolent uncle, Professor Sulaiman Bogoro, which led to his removal in TETFUND or his usual blood thirsty record in all the deadly violence in Bogoro?

To imagine that this political fraud has the impudence to rear his ugly head again is not only irritating but a grotesque insult on the people of his constituency who have since regained confidence in civil authority, thanks to the even handedness of the Bala Mohammed Administration. Among the several initiatives of the Bala Mohammed Administration in Dogara’s Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro/Dass Constituency are:

Roads

1- Design and construction of the 2.6 km Bununu Township Road awarded in 2020 (completed)

2- Design and construction of the 11.5 km Bogoro-Lusa-Malar Road awarded in 2020 (completed)

In the area of people empowerment, many youths and women have received training as well as empowerment equipment from the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP). In education the people of Dogara’s constituency have benefitted through the construction and renovation of many primary schools and the provision of classroom desks and chairs. This is in addition to the provision of books and other educational materials in the three local governments of his constituency. Similarly, reminiscent of the situation in other parts of the state, the state government has prioritized the provision of adequate security operations in the constituency, in collaboration with the security agencies.

Given that we do not share Dogara’s poverty of the mind, we shall resist the temptation to be drawn into our party member, His Excellency Nyesom Wike’s performance except to remind Dogara that the starting point of any such comparison is to look at the track record of the immediate APC administration vis-a-vis what this PDP loanee to the APC-controlled Federal Government is doing.

Finally, because Dogara is so consumed with himself that he lacks the presence of mind to appreciate historical currents, he probably forgot that the Buhari APC-led Federal Government had, after unwarranted vilification and persecution, publicly acknowledged that the Land Swap Programme of the Bala Mohammed FCT-Administration was a laudable initiative. We leave Dogara with this parting Bala Mohammed’s successor in the office of minister of FCT, Mallam Muhammadu Bello. His words: “The Land Swap Programme is expected to save the FCT Administration nearly N1 trillion which the Administration would have required to procure comprehensive district infrastructure in the 13 districts earmarked under the programme.

“Developing the city using the annual budgetary allocation is simply not possible because of the way the city has grown astronomically in terms of physical expansion and a rising population.

“Its primary objective in its simplest form includes the encouragement of home ownership and the reduction of housing deficit in the FCT”.

When it comes to vision and foresight, some people have it. But certainly not self-conceited impostors like Yakubu Dogara. That is why the former Speaker, will never understand the rationale for the flyovers in Bauchi or the remodelled Government House Complex that includes the ultra modern international conference centre, ICC , with its huge potential for transforming Bauchi State from a small traditional city to a robust melting pot of civilisations, businesses, intellectual intercourse and financial deals.

It is the prevalence of opportunistic characters like Dogara, masquerading, as opinion leaders and advisers, in the corridors of power, that the country has sunk into the morass that led to the present quagmire and not a statesman, patriot and quintessential administrator like Bala Mohammed whose transformational administration is placing Bauchi State on the path of sustainable development.

NIPR-FCT, Drawbridge Communication Sign MoU to Expand PR Ecosystem

0

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT Chapter on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a public relations consultancy firm, Drawbridge Communication Management Ltd, aimed at enlarging the public relations ecosystem in the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states.

At the signing ceremony in Abuja, the NIPR-FCT Chapter Chairman, Stanley Ogadigo said among other things, that the MoU will be a stepping stone towards bridging current manpower gap, especially in the area of public relations consultancy in the nation’s capital.

Describing the partnership as innovative initiative for greater value addition to society, Ogadigo emphasised that organisations in FCT will now have an array of options to explore in sourcing qualified manpower to address their public relations needs.

L-R: Chairman Projects and Partnerships C’tee of NIPR-FCT, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, Client Service Specialist, Drawbridge Communication Management Company, Jessica Ahmodu, CEO Drawbridge Communication Management Company, Hassan Abdul, Chairman NIPR-FCT, Stanley Ogadigo, Vice Chairman NIPR-FCT, Edward Adebanjo, Chairman, CSR&S, NIPR-FCT Eberechukwu Emeribe and Treasurer NIPR-FCT, Tanyishi Ahynopwa at the MoU signing ceremony

“Before now, it has always been a question of those in need of public relations services going outside Abuja to source for consultants. But now, we are saying we have a pool of qualified professionals around and time has come to put them to task. With this MoU, we are encouraging quality consultancy services, establishment of more public relations firms and effective collaboration to ensure that the PR needs of organisations, both public and private within the FCT are met”, he noted.

Mr. Ogadigo expressed optimism that the new deal with Drawbridge Communication Management Company will also help in building a system that will provide mentorship to young professionals, quality training to those already in the PR field and help prospective consultants in setting up public relations consultancy firms.

In his remarks, the CEO of Drawbridge Communication, Hassan Abdul said the project will leverage the huge potentials in the field of public relations to create job opportunities in the FCT and environs, adding that availability of quality professionals will boost the confidence of clients.

“If we have a large number of firms in the profession that offer quality services to clients, it will create the paradigm shift we are looking for and it will let people know that they do not need to move outside Abuja to get qualified PR consultants”, he stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Projects and Partnerships Committee of the NIPR-FCT, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan said the partnership offers opportunity to those intending to go into PR consultancy in Abuja to enlist for training that will sharpen their skills to render satisfactory services to clients.

Dr. Ibietan who doubles as the Secretary-General of African Public Relations Association (APRA) said it will bring to an end, the era of exporting jobs out of Abuja and reposition FCT as a hub for PR consultancy.

0

The Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa will be agog as eight teams, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, Kwara United of Ilorin, Rivers United of Porthacourt, Sunshine Stars of Akure, and 2023 winners of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football competition, the Prosperity Cup, Krusaders Feeders of Ekeremor, Bayelsa State, alongside host team, Bayelsa United, will go for bragging rights.

Apart from fostering stronger relationships among the participating teams, the Pre-season tournament which is organized by the Bayelsa State Government, in partnership with the Bayelsa State Football Association and Red Sapphire, is geared towards providing teams with the opportunity of preparing themselves ahead of the forthcoming 2024/2025 Nigerian Professional Football League season, as well an avenue to scout and sign players to beer up their squad.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE COACHES

We a look the Coaches heading to Yenagoa for the Pre-season tournament.

LADAN BOSSO

He is not new when it comes to football matters in Nigeria and Africa, and one of the most wide-traveled coaches in Nigeria. Ladan Bosso has handled several teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League, with the likes of Abia Warriors, Enyimba International, Kano Pillars, Wiki Tourist of Bauchi, Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, and currently having his second stint with Bayelsa United. He is one of the few coaches that has also handled the National team, managing the Flying Eagles twice, in 2007 and in 2020. The Niger State-born tactician was close to winning the NPFL with Bayelsa United in 2014, and is ready to prove that his second coming is worth it by winning the Pre-season tournament.

IMAMA AMAPAKABO

The retired Sharks Football Club goalkeeper announced himself as one of Nigeria’s tacticians after clinching the NPFL title with current champions, Enugu Rangers in 2016, following his appointment the previous year. Imama Amakapabo also managed Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri before switching to another eastern side, Abia Warriors. He is another coach to watch out for at the Pre-season tournament in Yenagoa, as his already planning to cause an upset by emerging winner with Abia Warriors.

FINIDI GEORGE

One of Nigeria’s most decorated and celebrated Ex-international, Finidi George is a household name in football at the global stage. Had great times with Calabar Rovers, Iwuanyawu National, and Sharks FC in Nigeria before signing for European clubs like Ajax, Real Betis, Real Mallorca, Ipswich Town, among others.

He won the league title with Enyimba International in 2023 in Lagos, and had a short stint as Super Eagles coach, before his resignation.

However, with his recent appointment as coach of Rivers United, Finidi George will use the Pre-season tournament to announce to his colleagues that he is going for the trophy this coming season.

MOHAMMED BABAGANARU

Certainly one of Nigeria’s reverred coaches, Mohammed Baba Ganaru is another name you wont toil with when it comes to football in the country. Having ruled the top flight league with the golden generation of Kano Pillars, when they cruised to victory for three straight seasons – 2012, 2013, and 2014.

He had also worked with Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists, Lobi Stars and El-kaneni Warriors. He left Gombe United and is currently with Akwa United.

Coach Baba Ganaru is poised to reignite his winning skills at the forthcoming NPFL season, and making an impact at the Pre-season tournament in Yenagoa won’t be a bad idea for him.

MONDAY ODIGIE

The solid-rock center back played for Enyimba International, Warri Wolves, Sharks FC, and Kwara United, before featuring for Indian club, Churchill Brothers, and then wrapped up his playing career in Bangladesh.

Monday Odigie have turned round the fortunes of the club since assuming as Technical Adviser. He guided Bendel Insurance back to the Nigeria’s top flight football in 2022 after spending over ten seasons in lower divisions, and same season,.won the Super 8 tournament in Yenagoa.

The Edo-born coach who has already made Yenagoa his home will be banking on his familiarities with the city, as well as the young stars he signed in Bayelsa following his visits to watch the finals of the Prosperity Cup in 2023 and 2024, to announce his readiness to go for the NPFL trophy by winning the Pre-season tournament.

KENEDY BOBOYE

The ex-Sharks of Porthacourt, Udoji United and SV Straelen of Germany playmaker, launched his senior managerial career with Sunshine Stars of Akure in 2015, and the following year, pitched his tent with Abia Warriors and the following year with Plateau United of Jos where against all odds won the Nigerian Professional Football League title – the only time they have won it. Although they topped the table in the 2020/2021 season, but it was halted due to the Covid menace.

Kenedy Boboye, having managed clubs like Remo Stars, Abia Warriors, Akwa United, and a brief stint with Heartland FC last season, will be aiming to prove to bookmakers that he is in Yenagoa for real business.

KABIR DOGO

Former manager of Wikki Tourists, Lobi Stars FC, Sunshine Stars and Nasarawa United will surely bring his wealth of experience to bear when the Pre-season tournament kicks off in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State next week.

The Kwara United gaffer will also be aiming to cause a major upset by guiding the team to victory, so as to alert other teams

GENESIS SUOMOKUMO
Surely one of the less fancied among all the coaches and perhaps the only coach that is yet to be launched at the national scene, but coach Genesis Suomokumo is already a household name in Bayelsa State.

Coach Genesis Suomokumo clinched the season 5 trophy of Nigeria’s biggest grassroot football competition, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament popularly known as the Prosperity Cup in style. His team were clearly and absolutely one of the best team ever as far as the grassroots football competition is concerned. With his stylish, skillful and attacking playing pattern, you would not help but fancy his style of coaching.

He also helped to guide Krusaders Feeders to triumph at the Bayelsa FA Cup.

However his team, Krusaders Selected comprises of other exceptional players picked during the Prosperity Cup, with players from the champions, Ogboinbiri United and Bayelsa United Feeders making the cut.

At the Pre-season tournament, Coach Genesis Wil be joined by Ex-international and former Bayelsa United manager, Jossy Dombraye, as well as seasoned grassroot football coach and pioneer manager of George Turnah FC, Ada Gwegwe.

Even though it will be mission impossible, but to Coach Genesis, it will mission probable, as he will be hoping to add the Pre-season tournament trophy to his cabinet, at the expense of other well established and known coaches across the continent, a feat that will surely catapult his name to greater heights if achieved.

The maiden Governor Douye Diri Pre-season football tournament will see teams arrive on Sunday, 11th August, with the first set of games slated for Monday while the finals will hold on Sunday, August 18th.

Speaking earlier, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, said that the Commission would increase its collaboration with development partners, including the state governments and other stakeholders to achieve its objectives.

The NDDC boss assured the Governor that the NDDC Board and Management would work in synergy with governors in the nine states covered by the Commission.

He however stressed the need to re-activate the NDDC Advisory Committee, as provided for in its Establishment Act, to advise and monitor the activities of the Commission.

Ogbuku made a case for a tripartite execution of the Omadino-Okorenkoko-Escravos Road, stating that when completed the road would boost the economy of Delta State.

He said that discussions were on-going with Chevron, the major International Oil company operating in the state, as one of the parties in the execution of the project. Ogbuku presented a document detailing the proposal for the key project to the governor.

The Managing Director noted that the NDDC recently inaugurated five mega projects across the nine states of the Niger Delta region, which included the 25.7-kilometre Ogbia-Nembe Road, executed in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.

He said further: “We also commissioned the 132KV Transmission Line and I32KV/33KV electricity substation at Okitipupa to serve over 2,000 communities in the southern part of Ondo State. Similarly, we inaugurated another 1×15 MVA 33/11 KVA injection substation in Amufi, Edo State.

“In Akwa Ibom State, we commissioned the 600-meter Ibeno Bridge and the 6.87-kilometre Iko-Atabrikang-Opolom-IwuoAchang Road in Ibeno Local Government Area. The N10 billion virgin road project links 20 communities, hitherto separated by the Qua Iboe River.

In the area of youth development, Ogbuku, said that the NDDC had given more opportunities and hope to Niger Delta youths through our Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement, HOPE, meant to identify interests of the youths for skills training.

He said that the Project HOPE had helped the Commission to develop a comprehensive digital repository, comprising important information about the youths of the Niger Delta region; including their qualifications, skills, interests, needs, and current employment status.

Ogbuku remarked that the NDDC was working with the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce in the training of youths and young entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta region. He explained that the Commission would collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce to support Small and Medium Enterprises in the region and ensure the sustainability of youth development programmes.

He added: “We are also partnering with the Bank of Industry to fund projects and support businesses to facilitate the success of our empowerment programmes.”

To ensure that a new institutional culture, anchored on sound ethics and good corporate governance was established in NDDC, Ogbuku said that the Commission engaged KPMG, a reputable global business consultancy, to review and strengthen its corporate governance system, as well as improve its internal processes and institutional protocols.

FG Never Gave N570 Billion To 36 States — Seyi Makinde Counters President Tinubu

0

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has countered claims by President Tinubu that the federal government granted N570 billion to the 36 states of the federation, stating that the information is not completely accurate.

In a newsletter signed by the governor and published on the state’s official website on Thursday, Makinde said the funds disbursed was not a direct allocation from the federal government.

The governor clarified that the money received by the states were actually World Bank Covid-19 funds, with the federal government acting only as an intermediary between the international creditor and the 36 states.

He further explained that the funding was contingent on what the states had already spent on Covid-19 programs, meaning the World Bank was simply reimbursing what the states had used to address the pandemic crisis.

What the Governor is Saying

The Statement read as follow:

Before I speak more on further actions we have taken to show our commitment to productivity and sustainability, let me respond to a long message I received earlier in the week from a concerned citizen.

The message was about a purported N570 billion Hardship Fund “given” to the 36 States by the Federal Government. I was queried about what I used the money for.

Let me state categorically that this is yet another case of misrepresentation of facts. The said funds were part of the World Bank-assisted NG-CARES project—a Programme for Results intervention.

The World Bank facilitated an intervention to help States in Nigeria with COVID-19 Recovery. CARES means COVID-19 Action Recovery Economic Stimulus.

“It was called Programme for Results because States had to use their money in advance to implement the programme. After the World Bank verified the amount spent by the State, it reimbursed the States through the platform provided at the Federal level.

The Federal Government did not give any State money; they were simply the conduit through which the reimbursements were made to States for money already spent,” Makinde said.

World Bank Loan, not Grant

According to Makinde, the funding by World Bank that was given to the state was not a grant, but a loan that is expected to be paid back by each state.

Backstory

It is earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu announced that his administration has given the total sum of N570 billion to the 36 States as a palliative measure to ameliorate the citizens’ economic condition.

Tinubu made this statement while addressing the nation last Sunday, appealing that those protesting halt their demonstration and return to the negotiation table.

According to the president, the State received this huge sum as grant from the federal government.

He said, “Also, more than N570 billion has been released to the 36 states to expand livelihood support to their citizens, while 600,000 nano-businesses have benefitted from our nano-grants. An additional 400,000 more nano-businesses are expected to benefit.”

However, the governor of Oyo said this is not the case, as the money received by the States was a loan from World Bank, and not a grant from federal government.

He explained further that 60 special courts have been set up to “tackle criminal activities related to the unrest”.

Also speaking on security, Montgomery stated that 400 people have been arrested in connection with the violence, with the government actively pursuing justice against those inciting unrest through hatred and disinformation online.
