APC Professionals Council has commended President Bola Tinubu over the expansion of the students interest free loan scheme to include Nigerian students seeking skill-development programmes.

President Tinubu after briefing on Monday by the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr emphasized the significance of the programme catering to individuals not inclined toward university education, underscoring the equal importance of skill acquisition alongside traditional academic qualifications at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

But responding to the development on Tuesday while issuing admission letters to the council’s latest 973 scholarship beneficiaries in Lagos on Tuesday, the National Director General of APC Professionals Council, Amb. Seyi Bamigbade applauded the President, saying the development will accelerate job creation, poverty alleviation and fight against hunger.

He said the President has demonstrated that he is a leader that truly cares about the yearnings and aspirations of the people, especially with regards to delivering his Renewed Hope Agenda anchored on job creation.

Bamigbade also said the council has awarded over 7,500 students scholarships since the emergence of Tinubu as the candidate of APC in 2022.

He further stated that the scholarship initiatives of the Council which seeks to enhance human capital development will continue to provide opportunities for teeming Nigerian youths who are unable to afford their tuition in various academic courses in the tertiary institutions.

He therefore urged those interest in accessing the scholarship scheme to reach out to Alhaji Salisu Yahaya Alfa, the office of Head of Support Group/Mobilization at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Police Return $3,000 Extorted By Officers In Rivers To Abia Travellers

0

The Rivers State Police Command has said three of its officers who abducted and extorted the sum of $3,000 from two travellers will face an orderly room trial and query respectively.

The spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this while parading the suspects before newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the action was part of the internal disciplinary measures taken against operatives involved in unlawful activities.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, also said the money equivalent to N4.2 million has been recovered and handed over to the owners who were to be travellers.

The policemen, including two Assistant Superintendents of Police and an Inspector, had whisked their unsuspecting victims to three states before dispossessing them of the said amount equivalent to N4.2m.

She stated, “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that it has taken a decisive action in response to a distressing incident involving the unlawful abduction and extortion of two young men by three of our officers, ASP Doubara Edonyabo, ASP Talent Mungo and Inspector Odey Michael.

“The victims were arrested in Abia State, taken to Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states respectively for alleged fraud by a yet-to-be-seen complainant.

“They were extorted of the sum of $3,000, an equivalent to N4.2m. Immediate steps were taken to apprehend the officers involved, and a thorough investigation was conducted to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.

“The extorted money was recovered and released to the victims on January 18, 2024.

“Following a comprehensive inquiry, it has been established that the actions of the officers in question were in clear violation of the law and the ethical standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

As a result, appropriate disciplinary measures are being taken to address this grave misconduct.”

Continuing, the state police image maker said, “In response to these regrettable events, the two officers have been issued with official queries, and the Inspector has been slated for an orderly room trial.

“Additionally, to demonstrate our commitment to transparency and accountability, the Rivers State Police Command has decided to publicly parade the officers before the press to underscore the seriousness with which we view this matter.”

While noting that the command is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability, Iringe-Koko said the behaviour of the errant officers was unacceptable and did not represent the values and principles of the police.

She added, “We deeply regret the negative impact that such misconduct may have on the reputation of the Rivers State Command and the Nigeria Police Force in general.

“It is important to emphasise that the actions of a few individuals should not overshadow the dedication and sacrifice of the vast majority of our officers who serve with honour and distinction.

“The Inspector General of Police has consistently articulated a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and misconduct within the Force, and this incident does not reflect the aspirations of the Nigeria Police Force as a whole.

“The Rivers State Police Command reassures the public that we remain resolute in our commitment to serving and protecting the community with the utmost professionalism and integrity.”

She urged the public to continue to have faith in the police, as they strive to maintain the trust and confidence of the citizens they swore to serve.

Relocation Of FAAN, CBN: Move the Commerce Ministry To Onitsha Or Kano – Dalhatu

0

Dalhatu SAN: If you talk about transferring FAAN to Lagos because there are more airline activities in Lagos than in Abuja, then you should take the Ministry of Commerce to Onitsha or to Kano because there are far more commercial activities in these two cities than in Abuja.

You should also take the Ministry of Agriculture to Makurdi where there is a lot of Agricultural activities and food production.

You can distribute these Ministries to locations according to the kind of activities you can identify but that is not the intention or the reason or purpose of establishing a Federal Capital Territory. It is supposed to be in itself a symbol of unity, a symbol of togetherness of this country.

The moment you start dismembering Ministries back to Lagos, first, you are establishing a precedence, because next Government comes up and it doesn’t happen to be from the South will now return them or transfer them from Lagos back to Abuja or maybe Kaduna or Sokoto or Calabar or things like that.

So the intention really is to make institutions symbolic of our unity, symbolic of the purpose of this country and not to give reasons. If you say congestion, when you mention congestion in relation to cities, anybody you tell about congestion will first think of Lagos.

Interviewer: The CBN is saying its Headquarters is supposed to house about 3000 but currently have over 4000 staff. The CBN also spends money sending its own staff to go to Lagos to spend 2 or 3 months to do certain jobs, which normally should have been domiciled in Lagos and they are speaking so much. So for effectiveness, CBN is saying it wants to decongest its Headquarters and people are wondering why Northern leaders and elite are having a problem with that?

Dalhatu SAN: First of all, the CBN building and the staff must have been in Abuja for nearly 30 years and we have never heard about this until suddenly it came up, that is one.

We know in Lagos, the Banking Supervision in Lagos is already strong, it never moved to Abuja and could still do its function there.

Three, at the age of technology now, you can work for a Chinese Company while you sit here in Abuja and still perform your function. For CBN to say that it does not have that kind of upgrade in its own operations, we think it’s not true.

We Are apprehensive because we believe this is a tip of the iceberg.

Nnamdi Kanu: Supreme Court Finally Releases CTC Of December Judgement –

0

The Supreme Court has finally released the Certified True Copy, CTC, of its December judgment on Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The apex court also promised to transmit Kanu’s case file to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor via a post on social media.

He wrote: Today, the Supreme Court released the CTC of its judgment in ‘Federal Republic of Nigeria versus Nnamdi Kanu’.

The Court also promised to transmit the case file to the Federal High Court by tomorrow. Sooner than later, we shall lock horns at the Federal High Court to #FreeMNK.”

In December 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal to release Kanu.

The apex court also upturned the judgment of an Appeal Court sitting in Abuja that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges.

In its judgment, the Supreme Court ordered a transfer of Kanu’s case back to the Federal High Court in Abuja to continue his trial.

The court, however, faulted the Nigerian Government over the extraordinary rendition Kanu was subjected to from Kenya in June 2021.

Following the delay, there has been pressure from Kanu’s lawyers and IPOB for the release of the Certified True Copy and transfer of the case file to the subordinate court.
