Again, Amnesty Office Reassures Delegates That March Stipends Have Been Paid

0

The Presidential Amnesty Programme has again reassured beneficiaries that it has paid the stipends for the month of March into their accounts.

The Office explained in a statement on Friday that the monies meant for all the beneficiaries have been released to the banks for lodgment into their accounts a week ago.

The Office explained further that the delay in receiving the credit alert by the delegates is due to technical issues associated with the banks.

It was explained that the Office has taken up the issue with the banks involved and the affected delegates have started receiving their stipends in large numbers.

The statement urged those who are yet to receive the stipends to check their accounts (transaction history) as the money would be in the accounts.

The office commended the delegates for their maturity in dealing with the unforeseen development urging them to exercise more patients as all such funds have been paid directly into their accounts

‘’We wish to state that the funds for the disbursement of the March stipends have left the Amnesty account and we have received positive feedback from many of the beneficiaries.

‘’The Office commends the delegates who are yet to receive the stipends for their patience and assures them that in no time the issues will be resolved.

‘’The Amnesty Office has no reason to delay the payment of the monthly stipends and has not changed its process for the disbursement of the monthly allowance.

‘’The Administrator of the Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro understands the anxiety expressed by some delegates due to the delay in receiving their allowances.

“There is no reason whatsoever to delay payment of stipends and he cannot deviate from his track record of sensitivity to issues relating to peace in the region.

“He assures the delegates of improved services from the PAP even as he calls for their continued support.”

NANS Roots For Air Peace

0

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared support for Air Peace, saying we should rally behind an enterprise that embodies self-reliance and growth.

A statement by NANS senate president, Akinteye Afeez, noted the arrival of Air Peace brought a change, offering competitive prices that made air travel more accessible to Nigerians.

It noted the drop in prices by other airlines appears not as a genuine effort but rather as a strategic move for competition.

NANS said it is essential not to be swayed by short-term price reductions but to recognise the broader implications for the nation and the future of the aviation industry.

It called on Nigerians to support Air Peace and reject attempts to undermine it. “Supporting Air Peace means more than just choosing a flight; it’s about rallying behind a homegrown enterprise that embodies aspirations for self-reliance and growth.

“Its entrance disrupted this status quo, introducing competition and affordability.

Together, we can ensure Air Peace continues to soar, not just in the skies but also in the hearts and minds of travellers,” it said.

Adebutu: I Lost Ogun Gov Election To Abiodun Because I Didn’t Shed Blood

0

Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 elections in Ogun State, has revealed why he lost to Gov Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Thursday, the PDP chieftain said the hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the ruling party went away with the act because he did not allow his supporters to repay violence with violence.

Adebutu spoke at Ijeun-Akoni, a remote community in Odeda Local Government Area of the state, during the 92 years remembrance of his great-grandfather, Pa Alimi Adebutu.

Pa Adebutu died and was buried in the community in 1932.

Speaking with newsmen after the prayer session, the former governorship candidate said he believes in life after death, and as such, he will not play politics of desperation and violence.

“I believe in life after death, that is me. That is why you will see in the kind of politics that I play. You will never see violence, you will never see desperation,” he said.

“One reason why 99 polling booths in the last elections were destroyed was because I refused that my people should repay violence with violence. I cannot be part of the process of spilling blood. I can’t. This is because I believe life continues after death. I am always being careful,” Adebutu said.

He said Pa Adebutu, a trader and agriculturist, lived, died and was buried in the community as against his hometown because of his good deeds and contribution to the development of the community.

“It’s good to be good. After 92 years, these people have not forgotten him. They spoke glowingly of him. When he died, they refused that his corpse should be taken home because the man served the community well. When you do well, your legacy lingers,” he said.

The APC spokesperson in the state, Tunde Oldunjoye has however said that Adebutu is campaigning after election.

“Let him be campaigning after election. The public knew those who engaged in violence and other criminalities. they are not that forgetful,” Oladunjoye said.

“Adebutu should concentrate on his ongoing trial for vote buying.

“He has traced his great/grandfather to Odeda? Very funny. We have no response to make, this man is looking for cheap popularity; he has already commenced campaigning for the 2027 election in April of 2024.”

FG To Provide Solar Subsidy In Nigeria Through $750 Million World Bank Loan

0

The Federal Government has secured a $750 million loan from the World Bank to provide subsidy to developers and operators of solar mini-grids in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and World Bank’s Country Director for Nigeria, Shubham Chaudhuri, signed the loan agreement on March 31 and February 19 respectively.

The loan, according to a document made available to journalists on Thursday, is aimed at augmenting the supply of electricity to both households and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) through a surge in private sector-led distributed renewable energy initiatives.

It read: “The loan will be partly used to provide support to the development and operation of privately owned and operated solar hybrid mini grids in unserved and underserved areas through: 1.1. Minimum Subsidy Tender Carrying out of Minimum Subsidy Tender processes and provision of Minimum Capital Cost Subsidies to selected developers/operators of (a) Isolated mini- grids; (b) Interconnected mini-grids; or (c) Solar rooftop solutions in Participating States.”

Aside from providing the subsidy, the federal government plans to also provide performance-based grants.

“There will be a provision of Performance-Based Grants to eligible mini-grid operators based on new customer connections for isolated mini-grids and percentage of capital expenditures for interconnected mini-grid projects.

“The grant will also cover Standalone Solar (SAS) Systems for Households, MSMEs, and Agribusinesses. This grant will provide “Support to the expansion of SAS systems for households, MSMEs, and agribusinesses in rural areas through: 2.1. Performance Based Grants for Standalone Solar Provision of Performance Based Grants (“PBGs”) to eligible companies to rapidly deploy SAS solutions in rural and underserved areas, through supply and demand side support and based on independently verified outputs, and to support deployment of solar productive use of electricity (PUE) equipment to MSMEs, agribusinesses and commercial customers.”

Why Is Odunmbaku Baba Eto’s Name On Every Lip?

0

Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) cleric and political engineer, is one of a kind who stands in a unique class of his own.

His types don’t happen too commonly. Infact, in our clime, he is a rarity, to have one person clothed in celestial and terrestial robes so fittingly.
Only few of his peers can honestly say they don’t envy his sartorial elegance whenever he appears in his ecumenical garments. And when he sheds that, to adorn the political regalia, he’s also a people’s delight.

Few of his type readily come to mind anywhere – in Africa or in any continent. I think of Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa and, elegantly speaking, Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus who ruled from both the pulpit and the polity in his life time.

Odunmbaku, better known as “Baba Eto”, is a mortal, but given the extraordinary gift of the garb and demonstrable style that is uniquely his own, he’s fast assuming the status of an indispensable human specie.

His type acquire larger than life status that is bound to attract positivity and negativity.
Those who are enamoured of him present to the world a cult-like image of him. To them, he can do no wrong. One such person, before the satanic instinct in man, reared its ugly head in him, was so fanatical of the man, Eto, he registered some of his personal vehicles “Aremo”, for which he used to tell those who cared to know, that he was “heir-apparent” to Eto. Today, that person is singing new tunes, as if his new listeners cannot decipher sychophancy and crass opportunism in his new drumbeats.

Another was said to have appeared at a political interview panel where, when asked what credentials she had to seek a position, she matter-of-factly told the panelists “Eto”. And when repeatedly asked what qualifications did she have to think she was fit for the job, she retorted: ” Eto ! Eto !! Eto !!!
That secured the job for her !

Such a person is bound to attract envy, jealousy and disdain, dislike or even hatred to himself. That is the fate of Baba Eto !

There must be something extra going for the “priestly-politico” that the talent-discoverer, otherwise known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu, identified him to drive his gubernatorial campaign in Lagos State; and has ever since held on to him like a leech that he has solely led the campaign of other guber candidates like Babatunde Raji Fashola, Akunwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwoolu to roaring successes.

If beneficiaries of Baba Eto’s gifts turn round to paint scurrilous pictures of the man, such people can only be consigned to the dustbin in which immortal Chief Obafemi Awolowo put those he described as ingrates of his large-ness of heart. As the late sage declared: ” There’s no escape for those who deny benefits”

Let the person without any blemish come out and cast the first stone. If we put aside belly-aching, jealousy and such-like vices, you cannot encounter Odunmbaku, Baba Eto, on the pulpit or the political rostrum and not doff your hats for this quintessential orator, mobiliser and professor of political mobilisation.

If some see him negatively from the positive binoculars with which Tinubu and many more view Baba Eto, then such minority must be wearing blurry blinkers in their faces.

Dr Dennis Otuaro Is Our Bonafide Member, Delta APC Replies Detractors

0

•••Thanks President Tinubu for His Appointment

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed insinuations that Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the new Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, is not a member of the Party in the state.

In a statement issued by the party on Thursday, the party stated that Otuaro is not just a bonafide member of the APC in Delta State but also a key financier and supporter of the Party.

‘’We the executive members of APC in Delta South wish to state without equivocation that Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, (PhD) is a bonafide (card-carrying) member of our party, the APC, who has made outstanding sacrifices and contributions to the party since 2019. His contribution in the last general election in Delta State cannot be swept away by mischief-makers,’’ it stated.

The party also stated that it was unaware of the group that published an advertorial in some newspapers alleging that Otuaro is not a member of the Delta APC.

The party noted that the authors of the said advertorial are not members of the APC neither are they known to the party.

“This group is not known to the APC in Delta South and indeed the entire State. Also, the supposed Coordinator, Comrade, Clever Fomana and Secretary, Luke F Orotoma, are non-existent characters created by disgruntled people to cause unnecessary distraction in our party,’’ the party said.

The Delta APC urged genuine party members in the state and stakeholders in the region to support the new Administrator, stating that “that should be everyone’s concern and interest right now, rather than petty squabbles over previous elections.”

The Delta APC commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Dr Otuaro, describing the new Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme as a ‘square peg in a square hole.”

The APC added that, ‘’he (Otuaro) is young, dynamic and experienced. He has a PhD in Comparative Politics and Development Studies from the University of Benin with extensive experience in the public and private sectors.’’

It continued: “We are happy that the President decided to appoint a grassroots politician and a critical stakeholder in the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) from the APC in Delta State to lead the strategic Presidential Amnesty Programme to ensure the sustenance of peace and increased economic activities in the Niger Delta.

The statement from the Delta APC was signed by the state Secretary, Surveyor Akarogbe Peter; Delta South Senatorial Chairman, Prince Austin Oribioye; State Auditor, Hon. Amabiri Paul Azorbo; Youth Leader, Hon. Napoleon Kenerekedi; and Welfare Secretary, Hon. Ayu Hoplyn.

The Full Statement Reads:

DELTA APC WARNS TRADUCERS AND HAWKS WHO HAVE BEEN SPONSORED TO DERAIL AND BLACKMAIL THE AMNESTY BOSS(DR. DENNIS BRUTU OTUARO)
Blackmails and backbiting are now used as tools in slandering and defaming very competent technocrats.

We read with dismay a campaign of calumny orchestrated by a faceless and phantom body called “Delta state APC Transparency and Advocacy Group” on page 4 of the Vanguard newspaper of April 9,2024.

This group is not known to the APC in Delta South and indeed the entire state. Also, the supposed Coordinator, Comrade, Clever Fomana and Secretary, Luke F Orotoma, are non-existent characters created by disgruntled people to cause unnecessary distraction in our party.

We the executive members of APC in Delta South wish to state without equivocation that Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, (PhD) is a bonafide (card-carrying) member of our party, the APC, who has made outstanding sacrifices and contributions to the party since 2019. His contribution in the last general election in Delta State cannot be swept away by mischief-makers.

We do not believe it is necessary at this time to name the APC members and candidates who have benefited from Dr. Otuaro’s generosity and support for elections and other very important party activities. Dr. Otuaro and his extended political family are key financiers of the APC in Delta State and worked tirelessly to ensure the Party’s victory in the recent elections.

We are even disappointed that these disgruntled elements do not care about the competence and capacity of the new Amnesty boss in modifying and revamping the Amnesty Programme, but rather on issues of no economic importance or benefit to anyone.

Perhaps, we should remind these fake APC members and traducers that during the last campaign, Dr. Otuaro played an important role when the APC’s Presidential candidate and current President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, visited the Gbaramatu community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. It is known to us that Dr Otuaro coordinated and presided over the entire logistics in that historical visit of our dear Candidate.

That was an open demonstration of support for HE Asiwaju Tinubu and the APC. That the APC did not win the elections in Delta State was due to some dynamics that were beyond the control of key supporters and sponsors such as Dr. Otuaro.

We appeal to genuine APC members, indigenes, and all Niger Delta stakeholders to support the new Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme to succeed.

We believe that should be everyone’s concern and interest right now, rather than petty squabbles over previous elections.

Furthermore, as Niger Deltans, we should be clamouring for more important positions in this administration and not engaging in this unproductive and futile ‘pull-him-down syndrome.’ Our region is the highest revenue earner for the country and we deserve more critical appointments that reflect our vast resources and importance in the grand scheme of things.

On the presidential Amnesty programme, we believe the President made the right choice in appointing Dr Dennis Otuaro as Administrator. He is a square peg in a square hole. He is a critical and credible Stakeholder in the PAP.

He is young, dynamic and experienced. He has a PhD in Comparative Politics and Development Studies from the University of Benin with extensive experience in the public and private sectors.

We the executive officers and APC members know ourselves and reserve the right to identify our members. It is not in the place of a clandestine body to identify members of a political party (in this case the APC) in Delta State.

The misleading publication in the newspaper by the faceless traducers is borne out of selfishness and mischief and should be ignored in its entirety because the purpose is not healthy for our party, our state, the Amnesty Programme, and the region in general.

We wish to once again commend Mr President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for making this celebrated decision in consonance with his usual practice to reward loyalty, dedication and sacrifice by appointing Dr Otuaro as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty programme

We believe that the President has always had good intentions for the Niger Delta and the desired development of the region. He has continually demonstrated this fatherly role to ensure the prevalence of peace and growth of economic activities in the region.

As loyal party members, we are encouraged by the historical commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. Also, the appointment of Dr. Otuaro as the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme further revamped our hope and faith in Mr President and his administration.

We are happy that the President decided to appoint a grassroots politician and a critical stakeholder in the Presidential Amnesty Programme ( PAP) from the APC in Delta State to lead the strategic Presidential Amnesty Programme to ensure the sustenance of peace and increased economic activities in the Niger Delta.
