Ignore Rumours of Ganduje’s Suspension, APC Professionals Council Urges

0

Following the alleged suspension of the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje by his Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, APC Professionals Council has urged Nigerians to ignore the report, saying there is no truth in it.

In a release on Monday by the National Deputy Director General (North) of APC Professionals Council, Hon. Abba Rabeeu, the council said the publication online is a handiwork of mischief makers who are bent in instigating crisis in the party, adding that Ganduje as the National Chairman of APC enjoys a harmonious working relationship with the party at the grassroot.

According to him, those who have been engaging in the wishful call for the sack of Ganduje are the ones sponsoring what he called malicious and mendacious lies against Ganduje.

He said, “We are not oblivious of the activities of some enemies of the party who have been working very hard to cause crisis at every level. We want to tell them that they will be disappointed as the party is firmly united against them.

“It is on record that under His Excellency, former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC has recorded massive grassroot penetration, as evidently seen in the plethora of wins we have had in off-season elections.

“No amount of false publication will stop him and his is poised to bringing more stability into the party ahead of Edo, Ondo and Anambra governorship elections. We will keep all enemies of democracy busy by winning all the way”, he said.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Sunday, alongside senior citizens of the state, graced the 80th birthday of Bayelsa-born Industrialist, Chief Ephraim Fagha-Faloughi.

The celebration, which had in attendance captains of industry, royal fathers, Ijaw leaders, top government functionaries and friends and family members of the business mogul, was held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri, in his remarks, eulogised the octogenarian for his giant strides in business dating back to the 1970s and still thriving across the country.

The governor described Dr. Faloughi as an Ijaw patriot, who was not only involved in the Bayelsa State creation effort but also invested in the state as well as being part of positive developments concerning the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

He also stated that the octogenarian was an asset that the state was proud of for his support and immense contribution to the growth of Bayelsa.

He said: “I feel very elated that we are celebrating the living and not the dead. Today will go down in the history of this state that we gathered to celebrate the life of our elder and leader, who has been involved in virtually everything concerning the Ijaw nation and indeed in the creation of Bayelsa State.

“He put in all that he could to ensure this state was created and upon creation, he came in and invested. One of the oldest hotels in the state, Brass Suites, is Chief Faloughi’s handiwork.”

The Bayelsa helmsman averred that Faloughi, whose mother is from Brass local government area in the state, was fully Ijaw despite having a Lebanese father as the Ijaw culture was equally matrilineal.

Chairman of the event and immediate past Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (rtd), described the 80th birthday gathering as a celebration of life’s achievements, which began with a lecture and dinner attended by the Governor of Osun State, Prince Ademola Adeleke.

Rear Admiral John-Jonah said Faloughi’s achievements did not come cheap as he worked hard from the scratch.

Also speaking, pioneer Pro Chancellor, Federal University, Akure and current Pro Chancellor of the Bayelsa Medical University, Amb. Boladei Igali, paid glowing tributes to the octogenarian whom he described as one with the purest of heart and who had rendered service to the country and qualified as one of the finest gentlemen in Nigeria.

Amb. Igali noted that Faloughi chose to bear the green-white-green flag of Nigeria because he saw the potentialities in the land and that his investments were evidence of his dream to remain a Nigerian.

He added that as a young man, the industrialist sat in 20 different boardrooms and moved up the corporate ladder by dint of hard work.

Responding, Dr. Faloughi said after criss-crossing the length and breadth of the world, he realised that home was home and that Governor Diri was instrumental to his decision to retire back home because of the enormous peace he has attracted to the state.

He recounted how he previously was reluctant to return to his state for security reasons but expressed satisfaction that Governor Diri had recorded a lot of difference and his likes can now be proud to retire with peace of mind.

Faloughi disclosed that having prayed for his re-election, the proper thing was not to celebrate his birthday in Lagos as he usually did and thanked the governor for his support towards the growth of his investments both in and outside the state.

Dignitaries that graced the event included the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the state Chief Judge, Justice Matilda Ayemieye, member representing Brass Constituency One in the Bayelsa House of Assembly, Dr. Daniel Charles, his Sagbama Constituency Three counterpart, Mrs. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown and a former Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demuren.

Amagbe Kentebe as well as King Ebitimi Banigo and His Highness David Serena Dokubo-Spiff.

Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe, his deputy, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, and other top government functionaries.

Industrial Court dismisses Councilor N5.8m claim against Local Govt

0

The Presiding Judge, Enugu Judicial Division of the National Industrial Court, Hon. Justice Olukayode Arowosegbe has dismissed the entitlement claim filed by former councilor Hon. Ugwu Alexander against Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area for lacking merit.

The Court held that the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission whose sole duty it is to provide allowances for councilors did not provide for such and the Court is estopped to honour the illegal demand.

From facts, the claimant- Hon. Ugwu Alexander had pleaded that he was elected a councilor twice to represent Ozala Ward of Igbo-Etiti local government area of Enugu State and at the end of the two tenures, he was still owed a total of N5.8m allowances.

He alleged that, in November 2017, the Enugu State Government directed the Igbo-Etiti local government to compile the list of indebtedness and also, paid part of it, whereupon the Igbo-Etiti local government made an undertaking to offset the balance, latest July 31 2018, but reneged.

In defense, the defendant- Igbo-Etiti Local Government maintained that it paid the claimant all his entitlements as councilor and did not owe him anything, and further counterplead the legality of the alleged debt and objected to the suit on the grounds that Hon. Alexander failed to serve pre-action notice and the case is statute-barred by virtue of the Enugu State Actions Law [ESAL] amongst others.

The learned counsel, Basil Nwalem Esq further argued that the alleged debt was illegal by virtue of the 1999 Constitution as there was no provision made for them by the RMAFC and urged the Court to dismiss the case in its entirety.

In opposition, the learned claimant’s counsel also countered the question of illegality raised by the learned defence counsel and urged the court to grant the reliefs sought in the interest of justice.

In a well-considered judgement, the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Olukayode Arowosegbe held that the pre-action notice was duly served on Igbo-Etiti Local Government and dismissed the objections for lacking merit.

The Court held that Hon. Alexander failed to point to any law duly passed by the Enugu State House of Assembly that made provisions for councilors’ allowances.

“…the alleged debt, is actually an illegal debt because it lacks statutory and contractual backings.” Justice Arowosegbe

Repentant Boko Haram Member Enlisted Into Nigerian Army Slits Woman’s Throat In Enugu Barracks, Hides Corpse

Private Mohammed Adamu, service number 21NA/80/0365, has been identified as the accused killer of the lady stabbed within the Nigerian Army’s 82nd (Airborne and Amphibious) Division.

This was revealed by SaharaReporters who noted that senior officers sources in the army revealed this to their reporters.

According to SaharaReporters the corpse of a lady wearing hijab was discovered on Friday by the daughter of an army lieutenant near the division’s commanders’ quarters.

A lifeless body of a lady who was stabbed by an unknown person was discovered yesterday in 82 division barracks,” a source had said.

The body was discovered by the daughter of an Army lieutenant who was taking food to her dad who is working on their farm somewhere around the division officer’s quarters

“And the knife used in killing the same lady was dropped off close to the body while the body was wrapped with the hijab she was wearing.”

While army officials have declined to comment on the event, SaharaReporters learned on Saturday evening that the killer has been identified as Pte Mohammed Adamu, who works with the division’s legal section.

According to two senior military commanders who communicated with SaharaReporters, the suspect (soldier) was a repentant Boko Haram member who joined the Civilian Joint Task Force before being enrolled into the Nigerian Army in 2021.

Between 2020 and 2021, the Nigerian Army absorbed 400 civilian JTF members to help fight the Boko Haram militants.

The suspect behind the murder of Miss Hauwa, the hijab woman is 21NA/80/0365 Pte Mohammed Adamu of 82Div legal services.

“Unfortunately, Pte Mohammed Adamu is a repented Boko Haram member who after his repentance joined the civilian JTF. It was from being a CJTF that he was enlisted into the Army in the year 2021.

“Investigation revealed that Miss Hauwa and Pte Mohammed Adamu were both lovers and from the same town in Biu local government area of Borno State. He, Pte Mohammed Adamu paid her transport to come over to Enugu and killed her. He is currently in custody of the military police and his statement has been taken in which he confessed to the act.

The late Hauwa was pregnant for Pte Adamu Mohammed before he slit her throat, stabbed her belly multiple times and tied her up in the bush near the 82Div officer’s quarters, in the early hours of Friday 12th of April.

“In his statement, Pte Mohammed Adamu claimed that the pregnancy the late Hauwa was carrying wasn’t his own, and he is not ready to father any child yet and he lured her out.”

When confronted that the Nigerian army had denied recruiting ex-Boko Haram into the military, the source said, “Not everything the army headquarters will agree to, we in the system understand better.

“These are the people we work with every day. They repent first and join the CJTF, it’s from the CTJF that they join the military. That’s how it’s being done, not that they do join immediately after repentance.

Another source verified Adamu’s arrest as the murderer of the pregnant mother.

“I know Mohammed Adamu is in the custody of the military police and has narrated that he killed Miss Hauwa and stabbed the baby in her stomach.

“Adamu is the bathman to Major HY Shehu, the persecuting counsel and also DDLS of 82 Division. He killed her with pregnancy over alleged infidelity and her body has been deposited at the 82 division military hospital.

“The body was discovered by the daughter of Lieutenant A Jackson on her way to meet her dad on the farm.

“Increasingly, members of the public are drawing the attention of the Commission to video recording of abuse of the Naira by Nigerians from all walks of life.

“These gestures amply demonstrate rising consciousness of the public to the sanctity of our national currency and the need for collaborative engagement to sustain the tempo.

“To this end, the Commission will always investigate and prosecute anyone involved in the abuse of the Naira. Old videos being exhumed and flying around for the attention of the Commission are noted as the Commission is sensitive to the fact that its Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the economy commenced operations on February 7, 2024.

“However, going forward, new videos of such infractions will be investigated and prosecuted.

“At the moment, the commission is investigating several celebrities involved in Naira abuse. Many of them have made useful statements to the Commission and many more have been invited by investigators working on the matter.

“The EFCC will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime”

Bayer Leverkusen Win Bundesliga For First Time In 119-year History

0

Bayer Leverkusen win Bundesliga for first time in 119-year history after beating Werder Bremen 5-0

For the first time in their 119-year history, Bayer Leverkusen are champions of Germany. A 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen on Sunday wrapped up the title on Matchday 29 as the undefeated, ultra-impressive team of Xabi Alonso scored four times in the second half. Victor Boniface scored the opener from the spot in the 25th minute while Granit Xhaka grabbed his goal in the 60th minute before star Florian Wirtz scored a hat trick in the final 22 minutes of the game.

No more “Neverkusen”

The title is the first Bundesliga win for a club who had previously held the record for most second-place finishes without lifting the crown. That in no small part played into their brandishing as Neverkusen, a club who for many in Germany and beyond were defined by a 2001-02 season where they contrived to finish second to Bayern Munich in the final weeks of the season before losing in the finals of the DfB Pokal and Champions League. A first domestic league title will make a welcome addition to a trophy cabinet that so far comprises just two senior honors, the 1988 UEFA Cup and the 1993 German Cup.

By the end of the season, Xabi Alonso could well have doubled the list of major honors at the Bay Arena. His side are strong favorites to win May’s cup final against second-tier Kaiserslautern, they are also among the front runners to win the Europa League.

Leverkusen’s win ends Bayern’s 11-year reign at the top of the Bundesliga, a feat most would have thought unimaginable at the end of a summer which saw Thomas Tuchel’s side strengthened by the additions of Min-Jae Kim and, most notably, Harry Kane, whose remarkable goalscoring season was not even enough to keep his side in the hunt for top spot. Even if Germany’s footballing superpower were to be toppled there was no guarantee it would be Leverkusen to do it. In his first senior job, Alonso had dragged them up from the relegation zone since his appointment in December 2022, but Leverkusen were strong outsiders to win the title at the start of his first full season, priced at +4000 with bookmakers.

Even when CBS Sports spent several days inside the Leverkusen setup in November, serious talk of a title charge was off limits. “The challenge now is not up against Bayern, it’s against what we can do,” said Alonso. He was right. His side kept winning, such that it did not really matter that the competition were putting up spectacular goalscoring numbers. Leverkusen pulled decisively clear at the top with a 3-0 win over Bayern in February, a tactical triumph for Alonso that only served to heighten demand for him around the world.

When the announcement came from Saberner Strassed in February that Tuchel would be leaving at the end of the season it came with the suspicion that Bayern were trying to position themselves at the head of the queue for Alonso’s services next summer. Another of his former clubs, Liverpool, were also on the hunt for their Jurgen Klopp successor. Then came the most remarkable turn in Leverkusen’s season.

More than just a one-hit wonder

This wasn’t going to be another Monaco, Ajax or even the Leverkusen of 2002, stripped for parts by Bayern and the rest of Europe’s monied elite. Instead, on March 29, Alonso announced he would be staying for the 2024-25 season. “At this moment I feel this is the right place for me to be to develop as a coach,” he said. “I am a young coach, but I have to feel it, and right now I feel that this is the right place.”

Crucial to that sense is the belief that he has a team ready to develop alongside him. That will mean keeping the core of the squad together. There may be a sale in the vein of Moussa Diaby’s $64.5 million move to Aston Villa; Jeremie Frimpong has consistently been linked with big clubs in England and the rest of Europe and sources around the game believe he could be one of the more likely to depart. However, that deal part-funded the acquisition of first-team lynchpins Granit Xhaka, Alejandro Grimaldo, Jonas Hoffman and Victor Boniface, so one sale ought not to inspire fear in the Leverkusen ranks.

Crucially, some of the most significant figures in the Leverkusen ranks are intent on staying with Alonso. Florian Wirtz, perhaps Europe’s outstanding young creator, is set to stay for next season. Given the more cautious outlook for Premier League expenditure this summer, the prospects of keeping young talent such as Boniface, Piero Hincapie and Exequiel Palacios are also rosier.

The good times, then, may not be over for the German champions.

Lagos 2027: Ambode, Man On A Mission Again

0

The election of Akinwumi Ambode as governor of Lagos State in 2015 was one of the best decisions ever made by the people of the state in its political history since its creation. He came, saw and conquered his footprint, which is still visible for all to see.

He came and built on solid foundation laid by his predecessors which further put the state on the pedestal of best-in-class for business, education, tourism and world class edifice that beautifies the city, making it the envy of others.

Gentle, soft-spoken, prudent, solution oriented, and indeed an embodiment of unscathed integrity, His Excellency former governor Ambode ticked all the boxes in leadership, ranging from infrastructure, transparency and accountability, improved security, transport infrastructure, investment, promotion of tourism, education and healthcare and all other endeavours.

Within four years in office, he remodelled Lagos, making it an investment destination for big businesses from within and outside the country. He massively touched the lives of millions of Lagosians in every sphere such that it would appear as if he had been in office for a far longer period.

He caused a paradigm shift, taking government from the urban centre to the suburbs and opening up their narrow roads, giving them modern streets with lights that also link the arterial highways. It’s been a seamless arrangement that has prevented traffic glut on the expressways.

Ambode’s health and education initiatives equally penetrated across suburbs in Lagos, giving opportunities to the son of a nobody to have access to free and decent education that would prepare them for the future. Understanding the place of science in the current educational system, during his tenure in office, Ambode established templates suggesting a progressive look into the future where science and tech will lead.

The silent achiever who does not want to blow his own trumpet pushed Lagos as a foremost player in the crusade for food security through LAKE Rice project, a collaborative effort with the Kebbi state government to ensure that there is enough food for the people. Sports, judiciary, and other sectors also received brilliant initiatives in the hands of Ambode to emotionally endear him to the people of Lagos and to move the state to a higher level.

Little wonder so many groups are on a daily basis driving a renewed vigour for the return of Ambode in 2027 to continue his midas touch in Lagos development agenda. This they believe will give him the opportunity to have a second shot in the Government House as the constitution permits.

One of the groups drumming support for the return of Ambode is APC stakeholder, which has consistently mobilized stakeholders even from within the current government in Lagos to back a Ambode candidacy come 2027.

An ardent supporter of President Bola Tinubu, he has continued to defend the actions and policies of the federal government with utmost vigour, preaching the gospel of patience among Nigerians for the current government amidst the difficulties economic environment.

We cannot forget, how upon assumption of office in 2015 Ambode worked with the Federal authorities to end crime in Lagos. The Lagos State Security Trust Fund under Ambode made one of the largest security donations ever to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, donating power bikes, operational vehicles, armored personnel carriers, bullet proof vests, ballistics and even helicopters.

To further compliment the efforts of Federal security agencies, the Ambode administration established the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency saddled with the responsibility of collaborating with the Federal Police and other security outfits to ensure a safe Lagos State. The Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps is a model for community policing and other state governments are now replicating in view of the prevalent security challenges.

These and many other giant initiatives we hope that he would consolidate on in 2027 upon his second missionary journey by God’s grace.

I also join the APC stakeholders to urge all Lagosians to back the candidate with a proven track record of excellence to be on the saddle.

The event which took place in Lagos on Saturday saw former Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, a former leader of Botswana, Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and others honoured for their contributions towards the development of the continent.

The 2024 edition of the annual award ceremony had as the theme, “Shaping Africa’s Path To Prosperity”.

In a statement made available to the press in Abuja on Sunday, the President of NYPF, Mr. David Osadolor applauded the award organisers, Heritage Times, a leading online newspaper publication in Africa with rich contents in politics, sports, lifestyle, entertainment and more for introducing the award ceremony as a way of appreciating those who have left indelible footprint in service of the people.

According to Osadolor, the annual ceremony will not only spur leaders across the political, business and other spectrum of life to give in their best but will serve as a guiding light to young people aspiring for greatness in their various endeavours.

He said, “At a time when service delivery, integrity and honesty is rapidly nose-diving, the culture of excellence can only be revived through recognition of those who have held their head high.

“Interestingly, Heritage Times is strategically doing this when these leaders are alive. Nothing gives greater fulfillment than being recognised while you are still alive than when you are gone.
