The Sports Sub-committee of the Bayelsa @ 30 Main Organizing Committee has unveiled a rich line-up of sporting and cultural activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.
Chairman of the sub-committee and Commissioner for Sports Development, Champion Hon. Daniel Igali (Oly), said the programme, scheduled for September 28, 2026, will bring together athletes, sports legends, government officials and stakeholders to celebrate three decades of Bayelsa.
The activities will open with a traditional “Ogele” procession from Onopa Junction to the Samson Siasia Stadium, where the “Legends Walk” will honour 10 outstanding sports personalities whose contributions have shaped sports development in the state.
A major highlight will be a novelty football match between the Executive and Legislative arms of government, featuring political office holders who have served the state since its creation between 1996 to date
The programme will also feature a wrestling contest between Bayelsa and Delta State wrestlers, showcasing the region’s rich sporting culture and competitive spirit.
Sports stakeholders from across Nigeria, former Bayelsa Commissioners for Sports, and Sports Commissioners from Niger Delta states and other dignitaries from across the country are also expected at the celebration.
Adding international colour to the event will be a delegation from FC Barcelona, currently in Bayelsa for a technical visit to its affiliated Bayelsa Starlets Football Academy, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and the Spanish giants.
Igali said the activities are designed not only to celebrate Bayelsa’s achievements over the past 30 years, but also to promote unity, patriotism and the enduring power of sport to bring people together.
The sub-committee called on stakeholders and sports enthusiasts to join the historic celebration as Bayelsa marks 30 years of achievements, resilience and legacies.
