Ereme Jackson FC of Port Harcourt will be facing Bayelsa United Feeders in the final of the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup Pre-season Tournament after a week of scintillating football among the 12 participating teams.
The tournament is aimed at discovering home-grown talents that would be integrated into Bayelsa United next season in the Nigeria National League, NNL in line with the governor’s charge to return the team to the NPFL.
Ereme Jackson FC in the first semi final, defeated Krosaders FC of Peretorugbene in an entertaining encounter to reach the final of the spectacle, having edged out Akinima Biogbo and NDU Oilers FC in the group games before securing their place in the final.
Bayelsa United Feeders in the second semi final, pipped Bayelsa Starlets 1-0. Godbless Ayeke’s 61st minute goal was all Feeders needed to progress to the final of the competition with Starlets missing several scoring opportunities in the game.
Ereme Jackson and Bayelsa United Feeders will now battle for the coveted Pre-season tournament title as the quest to return Bayelsa United to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL continues to gain momentum after the team was relegated to the second tier league.
Chairman of the Board of Bayelsa United, Dr Peter Singabele in an interview, remarked that the fans have been entertained with the best of grassroots football in the last few days of the tournament, pointing out that the rebuilding processe was well on course.
He noted that a lot of talents have been identified and are waiting to be integrated into the Bayelsa United team, with the final job to be done by the coaches.
He stated that the quality of football in the tournament was indicative of the avalanche of talents at the grassroots level.
Dr Singabele said the players selected from the pre-season tournament would feature in a friendly match against the old players of Bayelsa United in the afternoon on Friday, 31st July, 2026 at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
