BREAKING: Buhari Aborts London Medical Trip, Returns To Abuja From Kenya

March 04, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja after attending the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) at 50 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Bashir Ahmad, his personal aide, made this known in a tweet on Friday.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja, after his participation in the 50th Anniversary of the UN Environmental Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya”, Ahmad wrote on Twitter.

The President had initially planned to proceed to London after the UNEP meeting in Nairobi, for medical check-up,

His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had announced the medical trip in a statement issued earlier in the week.

“From Kenya, President Buhari will proceed to London for routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks”, Adesina had said.

Although, THEWILL gathered that President Buhari returned to the country around 1pm on Friday. No reason has been given for the aborted medical check-up in London.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued on the development.

While in Kenya, President Buhari had said at the Special Session to commemorate the UNEP@50th anniversary:  “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of UNEP’s existence, we laud the efforts of UNEP and encourage broader action to overcome climate change, biodiversity, rising levels of pollution and waste being three major crises threatening our planet.”

He also met with Mr Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Nairobi.

During the meeting, Buhari directed collaboration between the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development and Power to combat desertification.
