Gov. Wike, Justice Kanyip in attendance as CJN Tanko commissions Industrial Court Judges’ Quarters

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed GCON on Thursday 3rd June 2021 commissioned four residential apartments built by the Government of Rivers State for the National Industrial Court of Nigeria to serve as judges’ quarters.

The event which took place at the project site situated at Eleme Road, Old GRA, Port Harcourt was well attended by top government officials, Judges of the Industrial Court, Retired and Active Judges of the Rivers State Judiciary, members of the Nigerian Bar Association, guests, and the general public.

The CJN who was represented by Justice of Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Mary Peter Odili lauded the effort of the Rivers State governor for investing in the judiciary that the provision of residential accommodation for judges would further promote the rule of law, access to justice, and enhance efficient justice delivery.

“I wish to, once again, thank and fervently appreciate your Excellency, Bar. Nyesom wike, CON, for this incredible accomplishment. With this astounding feat, you have, for the umpteenth time, profoundly hoisted the banner of a true statesman. It is on this note that I humbly commission and dedicate these exquisite apartments, which are a specimen of contemporary architectural masterpiece, to the glory of the Almighty God.” Chief Justice of Nigeria remarked.

In his speech, the Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, expressed that the project was in fulfillment of his determination to help reposition the judiciary in the state to enhance efficient justice delivery.

In his remark, the Honourable President of the Industrial Court, His Lordship, Hon. Justice Benedict Kanyip, Ph.D., FNIALS commended Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the very good people of the Rivers State for the pleasure of an eventful and cherry edifice.

Justice Kanyip said the provision of the befitting official residential accommodation for the court would further make the judges more comfortable in the discharge of their judicial duties that the historic gesture is no doubt unique, unparalleled, and unprecedented.

In his welcome address, the State Attorney General, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor SAN said the provision of accommodation for judicial officers was a deliberate attempt of the governor to enhance justice productivity that the State Government is conscious of the need to bring labour justice more closely to the people of the state and its environs.

Similarly, In his goodwill message, the Rivers State Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Luke Chukwuka Esq, commended the governor for his vision and foresight aimed at promoting the administration of justice and rule of law.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Okocha SAN, said the inauguration of the judges’ quarters was one of the governor’s numerous benevolence interventions to the judiciary in the state that history would forever be kind to him.

Hon. President of the Industrial Court was accompanied by Hon. Justice M. N. Esowe, Hon. Justice F. I. Kola-Olalere FCIArb, Hon. Justice O. A. Obaseki-Osaghae, Hon. Justice I. G. Nweneka, Hon. Justice Nelson Ogbuanya, Hon. Justice Zaynab Bashir and Hon. Justice P. I. Hamman.

Others were the Court Chief registrar, Olurotimi Daudu Esq, Deputy Chief Registrar, Peters Udomiaye Esq; Chief Accountant, Alh Bello AbdRafiu, and also Director Admin, Mr. Muhammed Karaye, and others.

The quarters comprised of a Five-bedroom duplex, well-furnished to taste with state of arts convenience.
