Plot Uncovered To Smear Reputation Of Dr. Ogbuku over 50th Birthday Celebration

0

Sources close to the NDDC Managing Director have revealed to Equity News about a plot to malign the personality of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, over activities marking his recent 50th birthday celebration that saw him being celebrated by family and friends in Port Harcourt, Abuja and his home state of Bayelsa.

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku who turned 50 years on August 19, 2025, structured his 50th birthday celebration as a man of vision, humility and faith around his core values of intellectual reflection, communal celebration and thanksgiving to God.

Supported by his family, friends, colleagues and stakeholders who came to honour his life of service and commitment on this milestone was not anything extraordinary, as we see average Nigerians celebrate their milestones everyday with various elaborate ceremonies.

It is common practice in Nigeria today for family, friends and associates to pull resources together to help celebrate their friends, loved ones and associates. It is a trend that has been going on now for almost a decade. Friends come together to raise funds for burials, birthdays, support book launches and sundry celebrations.

The attempt by unscrupulous individuals to use the milestone celebration of any Nigeria whether in public or private service to drag that individual into public opprobrium is highly condemnable especially when such accusations are merely speculative.

For the records, it should be noted that the events marking Dr. Samuel Ogbuku’s 50th birthday celebration are well documented thus: a Book Launch in Abuja, a Dinner in Port Harcourt, and a Thanksgiving Service held in his home town Ayakoro in Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State.

Any suggestion of an ‘after party’ is a figment of the imagination of the harbingers of falsehood according to a source close to the NDDC operations.

This whole saga looks like a deliberate effort to distract from Ogbuku’s record of service and the NDDC’s ongoing work in the Niger Delta.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Ogbuku highlighted the Commission’s extensive medical outreach programmes, which have long brought life-saving services to underserved communities in the Niger Delta. He stressed that the introduction of Care365’s cutting-edge equipment would significantly strengthen these efforts, enabling the Commission to deepen its impact across the region. Emphasising the importance of prioritising wellness, he remarked that “health is wealth, and wealth is health.”

He stated that the NDDC was collaborating with various healthcare partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), to enhance healthcare delivery through programmes like the Care365 Health Hub, which was recently launched to provide innovative healthcare solutions and community health outreach.

According to Ogbuku, partnerships focus on expanding access to quality healthcare, addressing specific health challenges in the Niger Delta, and ensuring the sustainability of medical services for the indigent population.

He assured that the Commission would continue with its health programmes by establishing partnerships and ensuring patients have access to healthcare services even after the outreach missions.

“We have our free medical outreach, which we carry out in the nine states of the Niger Delta. The one for this year was flagged off by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Bayelsa.”

“For us in NDDC, we believe that health is wealth, and for the nation to be wealthy, the nation needs to be healthy. So every individual’s life is significant to us. We believe that the vulnerable people are the ones we need to reach out to. We came up with the digital health programme where we are registering the vulnerable people in our communities in partnership with the World Health Organisation. In the first phase, which we were supposed to register about one million persons, we have registered over 500 people who have been forwarded to the National Social Register to ensure that they have access to health insurance.”

New postings should be done and ensure that men and women of integrity are posted there. A report should be sent back to me.”

Diri equally charged the two Special Advisers to display the highest standards of integrity in the performance of their duties and continue to create synergy with the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
