The Bayelsa State Government has revealed plans for the celebration of its historic 30 years of creation, promising that it will be a loaded ceremony.
The State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe disclosed this during the weekly Prosperity Walk, held at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
He said the Prosperity administration remains committed to building on the achievements of the founding fathers of the State through people-oriented policies, infrastructural renewal, economic expansion and inclusive governance in the State.
The deputy governor remarked that the programme will start with an Ijaw language awareness programme, at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet hall on the 28th of September, 2026 at 10.00a.m. to be followed by sporting activities at the Samson Siasia Stadium at 4.00p.m.
Dr Akpe said Day 2, September 29 will feature a cultural float from Igbogene to Hospital junction, then move to the Ox-bow lake, where all the local government areas are expected to showcase cultural exhibitions, pointing out that it would include a boat regatta by all the council areas.
According to him, the Bayelsa musical concert will come up that same evening at the Ox-bow lake pavilion, where all Bayelsa musicians are expected to converge, explaining that the anniversary lecture will take place on September 30, 2026 at 10.00a.m. at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall.
The deputy governor explained that erudite scholars and stakeholders would be discussing the State’s progress during the lectures, pointing out that the State may not be where it ought to be, stressing however that Bayelsa has made significant progress.
He further explained that the Samson Siasia Stadium would host the Bayelsa Praise night at 3.00p.m. on September 30th, 2026 with the aim of thanking God for the remarkable achievements of the State in the thirty years of the its existence.
Dr. Akpe disclosed that immediately after the governor’s broadcast, on the 1st of October, the State’s helmsman, Senator Douye Diri will host a media chat, noting that thereafter, there would be a party for children, as well as the 30,000 pieces of cake that would be exhibited at the Peace Park, noting that the exercise is targeted at being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
He added that the anniversary celebration would climax that evening with an anniversary dinner and awards at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, stating that eminent Bayelsans who have contributed to the development of the state would be recognized and honoured.
The State’s number two-man, urged citizens to remain united and continue to support the government’s development agenda, assuring that Bayelsans’ best years were ahead, adding that the ongoing transformation across the State was a reflection of the government’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and creating opportunities for all Bayelsans.
Immediately after the Prosperity Walk, Dr Akpe went round the stadium, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports Development, Mr. Pereyi Efeke, Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Mr Bibowei Lambert and the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Sir Braveman Wodi, for an on-the-spot assessment of the stadium.
His words” “as you are aware, Bayelsa will be 30 years on the 1st of October, and the government has put up some programmes to celebrate the anniversary, the programme will kick-off on the 28th of September through the 1st of October, 2026” Dr. Akpe stated.
“The State is not where it ought to be but I can tell you that we have made significant progress in the development of our dear State. This anniversary is not only a time to celebrate the state’s achievements but also an opportunity to reflect on its journey and prepare for the future”, Akpe added.
