The All Progressives Congress Professional Women Council has inaugurated its first UK Diaspora Chapter at an event that took place on Thursday 29th September 2022 in the United Kingdom.
Present at the occasion which held virtually include, the National Director Women Affairs APC PWC / Special Adviser to H.E Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State – Mrs Ronke Soyombo and her team of Geopolitical Zonal Coordinators – South West – Hajia Sekinat Ogunwoolu, North Central – Dr. Safiya Musa, North East – Barrister Jamilla Babuba, South South Coordinator – Mrs Faith Ogwu and South East Coordinator Dr Vivian Obi.
Others are, Chairman APC UK South West Caucus, Honourable Olumuyiwa Adesua and Director General Professional Council Hon (Dr) Seyi Bamigbade.
The National Director Women Affairs in her remarks, welcomed all the women present at the meeting, spoke on what the council stands for and the journey so far.
He enumerated the council’s achievements so far to include, summit, training, and empowerment scheme in all the 36 States on the initiative of ‘Women supporting Women’.
She emphasised the need for women to support the incoming election of the party’s presidential candidates Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, his vice, Sen. Kashim Shettima, governors and all other APC candidates by coming en mass to vote and canvas for support to all families in Nigeria.
She spoke on the need for 35% affirmation which every woman is asking for as this will help in the transformation of the New Nigeria.
Director General appealed to the members, the need for them to be part of the political process back home and engage in party politics.
Hon Seyi mentioned how elated he is seeing the coming together of top professional women in the United Kingdom which includes people with OBE awards, and he promised to support them in whatever capacity as he officially inaugurated the chapter.
The women present at the occasion were very enthused for the creation of the council in UK as this will bring a lot of synergy with Nigerian Technocrats and be used as a great empowerment opportunity for young women.
Honourable Rachael Ebunoluwa Oke was appointed to lead as National Zonal UK Coordinator and Honourable Omowunmi Olunloyo as General Secretary.
Honourable Oke in her acceptance speech thanked everyone present at the meeting and promised to work with everyone to ensure the chapter becomes what all of us can be proud of.
A physical meeting will be coming up soon where the campaign team will be set especially as the presidential campaign gets underway.
