On Wednesday 18th March 2022, the Lagos State University Museum joined the world to celebrate the International Museum Day.
It was the second time LASU Museum is taking part in the celebration; the first was exactly 11 years ago when Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, was the Acting Vice-Chancellor. Incidentally, the second edition in LASU was also held with Prof. Olatunji-Bello as the substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor and the members of University management were fully on the ground as well as traditional rulers from around the state.
The Immediate past president of the National Industrial Court, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo, OFR (Retired) delivered a speech in commemoration of this year’s International Museum Day on “the Future of Museums: Imagination, Innovation, and Recovery of Lagos Cultural Heritage” at the LASU Museum, Along Oba Ogunji Road, Pen Cinema, Beside AP Filling Station, Agege, Ogba-Lagos.
Justice Adejumo maintained that Museums through their collections and programmes thread a social fabric that is essential in community building and upholding democratic values and providing lifelong learning opportunities to all, they contribute to shaping an informed and engaged civil society.
Royal fathers present were, HRM OBA Rilwan Aremu Akiolu, HRM OBA Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, HRM OBA Kamoru Ishola Animashau, HRM OBA Kabiru Alani Agbabiaka, HRM OBA Sedonu Adamso, HRM OBA Galib Rufai and HRM OBA Sulaiman Raji.
In her remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello expressed the deepest appreciation to all the traditional rulers for promoting the culture and upholding the virtues of the land.
While appreciating presenting the Innovation in Museum Education Awarded to the speaker, Justice Babatunde Adejumo OFR, the vice Chancellor said the objective of International Museum Day (IMD) is to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.
