Religious leaders in Lagos State have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as the return of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode to lead the state in 2027.
The endorsement was made today by Rev. Dr. Ola Makinwa during an awareness campaign for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) held in Ikorodu Division, Lagos. The campaign was organised by the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group.
Rev. Makinwa said President Tinubu had demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to national development, while Ambode’s past achievements in infrastructure renewal, effective transport system and investment in social amenities made him the right choice to return as Lagos governor.
“President Tinubu has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity, and we are convinced that a second term will deepen the dividends of democracy. Likewise, Ambode remains a visionary leader whose return will further advance Lagos as the economic capital of Africa,” Makinwa stated.
Director General of the Ambo Support Group, Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, also spoke at the event, urging Lagos residents to take advantage of the ongoing PVC exercise to equip themselves for active participation in the 2027 elections.
“We are going from house to house, sensitising the people on the importance of collecting their PVCs. This is the only way to ensure their voices are heard and their preferred leaders are voted into office. Our message is clear: re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and bring back Akinwunmi Ambode as governor of Lagos State,” Bamigbade said.
He also hailed incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment in meeting the aspirations of millions of Lagosians since 2019, expressing hope that he will finish strong.
Also, Hon. Sola Oyenuga, the Commissioner Tax Appeal Tribunal urged youths to participate fully in the PVC registration as well as in politics generally, advising them to mobilise massively for the All Progressives Congress
The campaign, which witnessed a large turnout of youths, women and religious leaders, also featured solidarity chants for both Tinubu and Ambode as the crowd pledged support for their political aspirations.
