[Unical Alleged Sex scandal] Nigerian Female Students commends Women Affairs Minister, Hon. Uju commitment to truth and justice
The Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS) has commended the Honorable Minister for Women Affairs, Hon. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye for her motherly role and commitment to truth and justice.
The Association expressed grave concern on the purported telephone conversation between the Hon. Minister for women affairs and one of the complainants in the UNICAL sex scandal that was released to the social media by people who are obviously mischief makers in pursuit of whatever personal interest.
The National President of the Association, Comrade Princess Omoniyi maintained that the association does not subscribe to the pursuit of Justice on social media, and urged the members of the general public to disregard the purported audio in its entirety that is nothing but a distraction and a strategy deployed by unscrupulous elements to shift focus from the main issue at hand.
“It has therefore become expedient, that we inform the public that as representatives of the female students involved in the matter, we fully understand that the honorable Minister was clearly counseling that all parties should ensure that the truth, only the truth and nothing but the truth is our focal point at all times in pursuit of Justice in the UNICAL sexual scandal case and always. In addition to her usual motherly counsel, Hon. Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye Esq, as a learned fellow, has consistently demonstrated her respect for global best practices, rule of law, equity and fairness.
“We are confident that she will certainly succeed in her efforts to consolidate on providing equity, justice and fairness for Nigerian women of all ages, class and status. We Hereby wish to make our following positions cathegorically clear:
“1. As Nigerian female students, we recognize and appreciate the relentless motherly role Hon Uju Kennedy has been playing in our affairs and wish to emphatically reiterate our confidence and trust in her capacity, passion, positive energy and drive to deliver our long standing desire for improved opportunities and conditions for women and the girl child across all divides, So we stand in solidarity with the Honorable Minister for Women Affairs and pledge our support in advancing her mission to create a society where women can thrive and achieve their full potential.
“2. We stand firmly with her in the demand that truth, transparency and sincerity of purpose must be the focal point of all and at all times irrespective of the subject matter and the parties involved.
Our struggle is not about witch hunting and we cannot become tools to be used by any party for the pursuit of any selfish interest, therefore we agree with the Honorable Minister for Women Affairs on the fact that unbiased transparent truth must be our standard at all times as ‘ She who seeks equity must come with clean hands”
“3. Hon. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye Esq. clearly demonstrated and proved her commitment to our struggle by her prompt response and follow up when we wrote “A PETITION FOR SEX FOR GRADES and VICTIMIZATION AGAINST PROF. CYRIL NDIFON-Deen, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar”.
“The Honourable Minister promptly facilitated the effective and efficient involvement of all the relevant government agencies and security apparatus in carrying out an unbiased and transparent investigation into the matter and also gave us a motherly advice to ensure that we speak the truth only to ensure that justice is done.
“4. We do not believe nor subscribe to the pursuit of Justice on social media, we use proper best practice channels with full respect for equity and fairness. It is clear that the purported audio recording of the conversation between Hon. Uju Kennedy and one of the complainants against prof. CYRIL NDIFON, recently circulating in some section of the media, is nothing but a distraction and a strategy deployed by unscrupulous elements to shift focus from the main issue at hand. Such distractions can add no value to our objectives on the matter and so we emphatically call on all stakeholders to simply disregard it.
“We also call on all unscrupulous elements playing politics with this sensitive matter to desist from such actions with immediate effect
“5. As, legitimate representatives of the Nigerian Female Students, we are currently working tirelessly with the hon. Minister to secure justice through global practice channels and therefore urge all concerned to disregard the misleading claim that the minister threatened anyone not to speak out against any perceived injustice, as on the contrary the hon. Minister has giving us a charge to encourage any and all victims of any form of harassment or victimization to not only speak out but leverage on her support to pursue justice.
“6. We hereby call on all female students to rally and fights together with women Affairs minister uju Kennedy to end the menace called sexual harassment and all forms of violence on women. Also we urge them to speak out and seek justice for any and all forms of perceived injustice but ensure they speak the truth always and not become a tool of witch hunt for anybody for now we have a minister for women affairs that’s fully committed to our struggle for equity, fairness and justice
“Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your time and rapt attention.
“The struggle continues,
“God bless the federal republic of Nigeria”
Signed,
Comrade Princess Omoniyi A.
