Buruji Kashamu, a former senator in the 8th National Assembly representing Ogun East is dead, EquityNews can confirm.
Equity News correspondent gathered that the former senator was said to have died at the First Cardiology Consultant Hospital in Lagos due to the complications from COVID-19. The hospital is the same facility where Abiola Ajimobi, a former governor of Oyo State, and Abba Kyari, the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, also died.
Kashamu who is 62 years of age served as a senator under Peoples Democracy Party (PDP).
It was also learnt that Kashamu, who had diabetes and high blood pressure, was admitted at the hospital for over a week before giving up the ghost.
Senator representing Bayelsa East in the 8th Assembly, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce broke the news on his social media handle.
Bruce tweet: “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss”.

Equity News also confirmed that Kashamu’s family is yet to issue an official statement regarding his death.
