Indigenous people of Lagos, popularly known as Lagos Awori have thrown their support behind the former deputy governor of the state, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire saying she is preferred choice for governor in 2027.
This declaration comes as they insist that she has the experience, charisma and track record to become the leader of the nation’s commercial capital, Lagos known for its economic vibrancy.
In a statement on Tuesday, Spokesperson of Lagos Awori, Mr. Kunle Salako said her choice follows extensive consultations with critical stakeholders in the state on the preferred candidate for governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s successor.
He said Princess Orelope-Adefulire the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals has what it takes to take Lagos to a greater height, especially as the clamour for a credible successor for Sanwo-Olu in 2027 remains heightened.
Mr. Salako said the transforming roles women play in leadership across countries has made it necessary for Lagos to tap into the leadership dexterity Princess Orelope-Adefulire has exhibited at various capacities at state and national level.
He said, “We the Lagos Awori have unanimously thrown our support behind Her Excellency, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for the new breed of leadership she represents which we believe will help take our great state to the next level in 2027.
“The woman in question is a person of outstanding character, full of vigour, energetic, trusted and tested at all levels.
“She represents the transformation our state desperately needs to fully activate its economic and social potentials for the overall benefit of our people”.
He called on the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), leadership of the party and President Bola Tinubu to support the emergence of first female governor in the state come 2027.
