The Coordinating Secretary of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, Hajara Bolanle Oniyangi Esq. has said the capacity building organized for Commissioners of the Tribunal was aimed at reiterating the need for collaboration, teamwork, and proper understanding and cross-fertilizing ideas on the Tax Dispute.
The Co-ordinating Secretary reiterated that different studies used to evaluate the impact of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, in rating tax compliance by the citizenry and organisations, found that an efficient tax adjudication system has helped all revenue authorities to hold taxpayers to their responsibilities and reduce the incidence of tax evasion.
On his part, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Umo Eno who was represented by the Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Emem Bob said a properly managed tax regime can be positioned as an investment incentive free from the negative connotations that undermine the role of taxation in an economic system.
The Governor said that his administration by the tenets of the ARISE Agenda, aims to “intentionally and deliberately improve on our ease of doing business in the State, and added that the State was already at an advanced stage of harmonizing the tax system to include all taxable adults in a progressive tax regime.
Governor Eno commended the tribunal for bringing their retreat to Akwa Ibom State and assured of a return with fun memories of a State with modernized infrastructure and friendly people.
