The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has concluded its first session of 2023 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme with the induction of new members.
At the 3-day event which ended on Wednesday in Abuja with the induction of new 421 members, the National President of the association, Rev. Canon Prof. Chuka Osisioma while congratulating the inductees urged them to strive for personal development by opening their minds to learning.
With the theme, “Understanding Financial Disclosures On Sustainability”, the event seeks to highlight the responsibilities of accountants in entrenching a transparent financial disclosure system, particularly in filing tax returns.
“So I am urging you today to do the best you can, study, work hard, improve yourself.
“One of the things that show your are a professional is your desire to read on your own and improve yourself. If you don’t improve yourself, you are not a professional irrespective of the number of certificates you have”, he told the inductees on Wednesday to mark the end of the first session of MCPD 2023.
He charged the new members to associate with their various branches, participate in activities and programmes of the association and observe ethics while performing their professional duties.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the association, Dr. Kayode Olushola Fasua described ANAN as one of the top five professional accounting bodies in Africa, appealing to the inductees to own the association with pride.
“By your induction today, ANAN will start paying $100 on your behalf on a yearly basis to the International Federation of Accountants, which ANAN belongs to.
“This automatically makes you a member as well, so have it in mind today that you are not a local accountant, you are an international accountant. You must know this so that you will be proud of where you are coming to and talk about it yourself”, he stated.
Dr. Fasua while congratulating the inductees for meeting the requirements for membership called on them to guard the name of the association with outstanding professional and ethical conduct.
The host of the MCPD and the FCT 1 Abuja branch chairman, Elisha Andrew Shavah commended members from North Central zone for surmounting obstacles, including the lingering scarcity of petrol and cash to be part of the 2023 first session.
He said the theme was carefully selected to provide broader discourse in line with developments in the country’s financial sector.
The association’s membership secretary, Hussaini Gidado called on the new members to make themselves available for the development programmes of ANAN that come up at regular intervals.
