The Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA Abuja has unveiled the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd) as the chapter’s patron.
Buratai, a former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin was unveiled on Friday at a brief ceremony in Abuja.
In his remarks, the chairman of ANA Abuja, John “Freeman” Ondoma said the choice of Buratai as the chapter’s patron follows a wide consultation within and beyond the chapter and in recognition of his love for literature and creativity.
According to Ondoma, the former Army Chief has made significant contributions towards the development of education and literary sector in the country spanning several decades.
He extolled Buratai for not relenting in being an agent of social change through knowledge sharing in written documents despite his busy schedule as a public servant.
Ondoma urged other Nigerians in public and private sectors to learn to document their experiences to serve as a pathway for the future.
Buratai had recently unveiled his book, “Legend of Buratai”, an 8-chapter and 120-page novel he co-authored with renowned journalist, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Sani.
The book highlights the virtue of bravery, hard work, prudence and fearlessness which the former Chief of Army Staff stands out for among peers.
In his remarks, Buratai expressed gratitude to the body of authors for finding him worthy of honour, pledging commitment to raise the bar of quality literary materials in Abuja and beyond.
He also thanked the authors for the roles they play in uniting the country, appealing to them to ignore the antics of divisive forces who do not wish the country well.
The engagement is believed to be part of the current leadership of ANA Abuja which came on board September this year to expand the association’s membership base.
Ondoma shortly after his inauguration told reporters that he will leverage on the achievements of the past administration led by Halima Usman to foster continuity.
Those who witnessed the unveiling ceremony include, the National President of the association, Ahmed Maiwada, immediate past chairman of ANA Abuja Halima Usman, former Secretary Jerry Adesewo, literary critique Dr. Lizzy Ashimole, vice chairman ANA Abuja, Charles C. Iwuchukwu, Secretary of the chapter Ishaya Luka, military top brass and others.
