NUC Approves New Academic Programmes For UNIZIK

AWKA – National Universities Commission, NUC, has approved new programmes for study at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The programmes are spread across disciplines in the institution’s undergraduate studies and postgraduate degree programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS, made this known in Awka while speaking at March congress organized by the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists led by Comrade Dr.Odogwu Emeka Odogwu.

He said the approval was made after the NUC body made a resource assessment visit to the institution, recently.

According to him, the new programmes are Doctor of Pharmacy, Pharm.D); Agricultural Education, B.Agric (Ed); Home Economics Education, B. Sc (Ed); Petroleum Engineering, B.Eng; and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, B. Sc. respectively and are expected to take effect from 2021/2022 academic session.

He also stated that Supply Chain and Logistics Management in the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Migration Studies and Integrated Water Resources Management in the faculty of Physical Sciences were deemed fit into the Masters Degree programmes of the College of Post Graduate Studies. He said the programmes were in response to the dire need of the society.

He further informed that the Pharmacy Department of the Medical Center have been licensed to train interns, having received full accreditation of the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria.

Similarly, the Unizik VC noted that the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) had designated the University’s Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management as a centre of excellence for training of fisheries experts in Nigeria.
