Nigerian Idol: 75 contestants get golden ticket as theatre week begins

The final day of auditions was a battle for the much-coveted golden ticket as many contestants gave their best to impress the judges.

Emmanuel got three yeses from the judges when he sang Sam Smith’s Too Good at Goodbyes. He even got a “Your face show, your shoe shine” remark from D’banj before he picked a golden ticket.

29-year-old Remi used his smooth voice to win the heart of the judges with the way he sang beautifully. His rendition of Adele’s Make you Feel my Love earned him applause. Even D’banj said he got three yeses without stress.

Chisom sang Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars and he truly brought the flow. Even Omawunmi sang along before she commended his artistic rendition of the song. He got a golden ticket after three yeses.

Isioma aka the Queen of Swag told the judges she came prepared with two songs. She dropped one of them and did not have to sing the other before the judges gave her the golden ticket.  Asika commended her for her confidence and the delivery of her performance.

But not all the auditions ended in a golden ticket. Osemeke planned to blow the judges away and believed he could win a grammy award in the future. The judges however were not impressed and he walked away empty-handed.

Gold however performed better. She said true to her name, she would walk away with a golden ticket. After her performance, the judges agreed, she deserved it and she got it.

Itoro, a teacher, blew the judges away with her powerful voice which, according to Obi Asika, was unexpected due to her small frame. She got three yeses and a golden ticket.

In all, 75 contestants got golden tickets which allowed them to move to the theatre week. Here, the judges were joined by Yinka Davies who has been a long-time judge on the show.

This is where it becomes interesting: the 75 contestants who made it to the next round were given specific chorus songs to sing after which they were sent to either room one, room two or room three. Sunday’s show ended on a cliffhanger as the fate of the singers in each room remains unknown…for now.
