FCT Council Election: Police Make U-Turn, Cancel Restriction Of Movement

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescinded its earlier decision to restrict movement during the council elections billed to hold today.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said in a statement Friday that the restriction from 12midnight to 4pm earlier announced, would no longer be enforced.

The command directed all members of the public “to go about their normal legitimate business without the fear of harassment or molestation of any kind from any quarters.”

“The Commissioner of Police in FCT, Babaji Sunday, while assuring the members of public of the provision of a watertight security before, during and after the election, urges members of the public to come out in their numbers to vote for candidates of their choice,” the statement said.

The command called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or abnormal occurrence to the police.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Transparency and Advocacy (CTA) has listed 13 flashpoints that security agents should closely monitor for the elections.

The Executive Director of CTA, Faith Nwadishi, at a news conference yesterday in Abuja, urged security agencies to beef up security in those areas to ensure voters exercise their franchise peacefully.

She listed the places as Karshi, Deidei, Zuma Rock, Kabusa, Gishiri, Abaji Nebu, Yangoji, Yaba, Kwali Kwaita, Mate, Azam, Kuje Pegi and Bwari.
