University Of Ibadan Gets Acting VC

The Senate of the University of Ibadan has made their decision by electing Prof. Adebola Babatunde Ekanola as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university.

Prof. Adebola Babatunde Ekanola, who is the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics was elected on Monday as the erstwhile VC, Prof Idowu Olayinka’s tenure ended today (Monday) as well.

More information as revealed by sources present at the meeting indicated that the elected acting VC, Ekanola, scored 275 votes to beat four other professors who had contested for the role as well.

Equity News understands that Prof. A. Oluleye scored 80 votes to come second while Prof Adigun Agbaje raked in 15 votes to place third; with other candidates, Prof Gbemisola Oke and Prof.Adeyemi polling 14 and 13 votes respectively.

The selection for the new VC of the university had earlier on led to several criticisms and internal crisis, which had made the selection process to be cancelled for the commencement of a new selection process as directed by the NUC.

Following the crisis, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, asked the Senate of the university to appoint an acting VC while the institution begins the process for a new VC.

The Director, Public Communication, University of Ibadan, Olatunji Oladejo, attested to the election of Ekanola.

He further stressed, saying: “It is confirmed that Prof Ekanola, current Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics has been elected the new acting vice-chancellor.”
