Kogi: INEC Reveals Number Of Voters To Participate In By-Election

Ahead of the forthcoming December 5 By-Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  has revealed that the number of voters that will participate at the Kogi By-election.

Making this disclosure in a statement, the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) James Apam revealed that 76,575 voters will participate in the by-election to fill the vacant seat at the Kogi state House of Assembly.

The Assembly seat was made vacant after the death of John Abah, the representative of Ibaji local government at the state Assembly.

Further revealing that 96 per cent of the voters have collected their Permanent Voters Card ahead of the By-election,  Apam revealed that the election will hold in 148 polling units across 10 wards in the local government.

According to him, 630 ad hoc staff comprising one Returning Officer, 10 collation officers, presiding officers and assistant presiding officers had been recruited and trained to handle the election. The REC said that the election would hold from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Further promising that the commission was ready to conduct a hitch-free election, Apam said:

“All smart card readers to be used have been reconfigured and are ready for the election.”

Also stating that the commission will ensure that voters observe COVID-19 protocol during the election, the REC pleaded with voters, party agents, observers and election officials to use face masks during the election.

He also stated that sanitisers, infrared, thermometers and hand sanitisers would be made available at polling booths.
