Ondo Assembly Impeaches Deputy Speaker For Refusing To Sign Agboola’s Impeachment Notice

The deputy speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Iroju Ogundeji, has been impeached by members of the Ondo State Assembly.

According to the Nation, the speaker was impeached during the house plenary on Tuesday.

Samuel Aderoboye was immediately elected to replace the embattled deputy speaker.

Aderoboye is the representative of Odigbo Constituency 2 at the state Assembly.

This is coming a day after the state Governor Rotimi Akerdolu sacked the State’s Attorney general and Commissioner for justice.

While the reason for the impeachment of the speaker remains unclear, the deputy speaker who has been reported to be an ally of the Deputy Governor Ajayi Agboola might be impeached for his loyalty to Agboola.

It will be recalled that the Assembly had, in July, suspended Ogundeji for his loyalty to Agboola who dumped the All progressives Congress (APC) to contest at the state governorship election.

Ogundeji was part of the nine lawmakers that refused to sign the impeachment notice served by the lawmakers to the deputy governor.

However, the lawmakers’ refusal to sign the deputy governor’s impeachment notice stalled his removal, as the recently sacked state attorney revealed that the lawmakers did not meet the requirement to effect the impeachment.

In the buildup to the Ondo State governorship election, Agboola who fell out with his principal Rotimi Akeredolu dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He later left PDP for Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) after failing to clinch PDP’s governorship ticket.
