Man arraigned for alleged N6.5million fraud

The Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned a 35-year-old man, Uche Chukwuma, for allegedly stealing the sum of N6.5million.

The accused, Uche, also allegedly threatened to assassinate one Stanley Ginika in order for him not to pay the loan he collected.

Equity News gathered that he was arraigned before a Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo for stealing the money belonging to one Stanley Ginika of Quantum Intervention Ltd.

Police Prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the accused person committed the offense between December 2018 and August 26, 2020 in Osogbo.

Elisha said that the accused person did with intent to defraud unlawfully obtain the sum of N 6,500,000 at 10 per cent monthly interest rate which he refused to pay and same accumulated to the sum of N 102, 575,000.

The prosecutor further told the court that the accused person did issue Diamond Bank Cheque to one Stanley Ginika to withdraw the sum of N2,200,000 which was dishonored at the bank and written Drawers Attention is Required (DAR) by the Stanbic Bank in Osogbo.

He stated that the offence committed by the accused person was contrary to and punishable under Section 419, 390(9), 86 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.II Laws of Osun State Nigeria, 2002 and Section 1(1)(b) of the dishonored cheque (Offenses)Act, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to offence leveled against him.

Defense Counsel, Adeyemi Adedeji applied for his client bail in the most liberal terms.

In his ruling, Magistrate Ishola Omisade granted the accused person bail in the sum of N5,000,000 with 2 sureties in like sum.

He thereby adjourned the case till 16th of November, 2020 for hearing.
