Commercial driver arraigned over alleged fraud

A  43-year-old commercial driver, Jakson John, who allegedly defrauded his business partner, on Friday appeared in a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court.

The police charged John, who resides in Jabi, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Police Prosecutor, Peter Ejike, told the court that reported the matter at  the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station on Aug. 27.

The prosecutor alleged that in February the complainant, entered an agreement with the defendant and gave him a vehicle worth N2million on hire purchase, stressing that the defendant agreed to remit N20, 000 weekly to the complainant until he pays off the entire N2miliion.

He however alleged that the defendant only remitted N240, 000 for 12 weeks and absconded with the vehicle.

The prosecution told the court that during police investigation, the defendant was arrested and the vehicle was recovered, adding that the offense contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Omolola Akindele admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Akindele ordered that the surety be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and should deposit a valid means of Identification which must be verified by the court registrar.

She adjourned the matter until October 5, for hearing.
